The Santa Fe Institute will present a colloquium with Michael E. Smith of Arizona State University titled Cities through the Ages: One Thing or Many?

Meet at PEEC at 5:30 p.m. for Wild Flower Walk

Join PEEC’s Jemez Mountains Herbarium Curator Chick Keller today for an easy walk to identify some local wild flowers.

Meet at PEEC on Orange Street at 5:30 p.m. to carpool to the trailhead. Weather permitting, the group will drive to the ski hill and strole up the maintenance road to the east. There are really nice flowers including the fairly rare Delphinium sapellonis and five nerved sunflower. 

If it is bad weather up there at 5:30 p.m., the group will walk up Pajarito Canyon.

Kiwanis Club Presents Scholarship to Amy Neal

The Los Alamos Kiwanis Club recently presented Amy Neal with a scholarship. Amy will attend the University of Tennessee to study engineering. Amy was selected because of her vast contribution to the community and youth through Youth United Way, Mexico Mission and Los Alamos Youth Leadership. Missoula Children’s Theatre Casting Call: ‘The Tortoise Versus The Hare’

Missoula Children’s Theatre is holding a casting call at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 22 at Crossroads Bible Church for The Tortoise Versus The Hare.

More than 50 roles will be cast for students entering first through twelfth grades. A parent/guardian must be with each child when registering in order to sign the permission form.

SANTA FE – Gov. Susana Martinez is reminding students on summer vacation that all forms related to the Summer Reading Challenges need to be in by Aug. 1.

There’s still time to download the forms and enter the competition.

“We are just three weeks away from the deadline for the Summer Reading Challenges,” Martinez said. “I urge all students to make sure they submit the paperwork for all of the books they read this summer by Aug. 1.
