A public meeting to discuss data from the depressurization of four flanged tritium waste containers at Los Alamos National Laboratory is scheduled for Dec. 9, 2025, in Los Alamos.

This in-person meeting will be held, 5:30-7 p.m. at Sala Event Center, 2551 Central Ave.

Los Alamos County Monitoring Equine Herpesvirus-1 Outbreak

COUNTY News: 

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department (CSD) reports that there are currently no known cases of Equine Herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) or Equine Herpes Myeloencephalopathy (EHM) in the County.

CSD staff is monitoring a multistate outbreak linked to the 2025 PRA World Finals in Waco, Texas (held Nov. 5-9) and the Barrel Futurities of America event in Guthrie, Okla. (held Nov. 17-18) where positive cases were confirmed. As a precaution, County staff is coordinating with local veterinarians and the State of New Mexico to be prepared should the situation change.

Farmington Field Office Plans Pile Burn Near Navajo Lake

BLM News:

FARMINGTON — Beginning now through this winter, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Farmington Field Office is planning to burn piles on a two-acre unit, weather permitting.

The unit is near Highway 511 between mile markers 17-20, approximately 5 miles north/northwest of Navajo Lake State Park. This project is being conducted in coordination with the New Mexico State Land Office.

SANTA FE — Bureau of Land Management (BLM) offices in New Mexico will begin selling personal Christmas tree permits for harvest of piñon and juniper. Permits will be available beginning Nov. 24 for the Farmington, Taos, Socorro, and Rio Puerco Field Offices and New Mexico State Office. The permits must be purchased before Dec. 24.
