SANTA FE — This spring, Santa Fe Pro Musica and New Mexico Museum of Art collaborate in presenting their second annual Organ Recital Series, featuring the museum’s Frederick R. Haas pipe organ.

This free chamber music series presents outstanding local musicians including organist David Solem, violinist David Felberg and flutist Jesse Tatum March 19, April 16 and May 21 at St. Francis Auditorium in the New Mexico Museum of Art.

On Friday, Feb. 7 from 5-7 p.m., Los Alamos Police Officers will battle Los Alamos Firefighters in a game of broomball. The community’s finest will suit up to play a charity event at Los Alamos County Ice Rink to benefit local Special Olympic athletes.

LALT To Host Auditions For ‘Myths’ And ‘Moonbows’

LALT News:

The Los Alamos Little Theatre (LALT) has announced auditions for its March production of two one-act vignette plays, “The Myths at the Edge of the World” by Matthew Webster and “Moonbow Miraculous” by Kirk Shimano.

A diverse and intergenerational all-ages cast is sought for this family-friendly show. Children should be old enough to “sit still, pay attention, and take direction,” Director Mimi Adams said.

Auditions are 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 18 and 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 19 in the main auditorium of the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St.

To commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, The Zia Singers women’s chorale is presenting a concert titled “I Have A Dream” – 7 p.m. Jan. 18 and 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Cristo Rey Catholic Church, 1107 Cristo Rey St. in Santa Fe.

Wide Open Spaces: This photo was made in the panhandle of Texas. While the panhandle does have several unique features, it also has a lot of wide open spaces. This is ranch land which is not very picturesque but I believe the photo works because of the great contrast between the greens and browns of the land and the beautiful blue skies. Los Alamos County has joined forces with the University of New Mexico and Los Alamos Hockey Association to return the Nuclear Shootout College Hockey Tournament to the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

This event kicks off at 9 a.m. Jan. 17 and wraps up Jan. 19.

Team participating in this two-day tournament include Colorado Air Force, Missouri State, Arizona State University and University of New Mexico.

STEP UP GALLERY News:

The new exhibit opening this week in Step Up Gallery at Mesa Public Library features the work of Alexis Palmaffy, who credits Los Alamos as one of the places that helped her to find her creative inner voice. Her work is exquisitely drawn and colorfully painted, and reminiscent of spiritual Tibetan art as well as of psychedelic art from the 1960s and ‘70s.
