Strange Magic By Alexis Palmaffy Opens In Step Up Gallery At Mesa Public Library Tuesday Jan. 7

Step up Gallery at Mesa Public Library invites the public to enter the mystical world of visionary artist, Alexis Palmaffy, in her solo show, Strange Magic. The show opens Tuesday, Jan. 7 and continues until Wednesday, Feb. 12.

Palmaffy’s unique paintings, drawings and copper plate etchings combine her love of nature with explorations of the supernatural. Her paintings feature vibrant colors, while her drawings and etchings showcase her exquisite line work.

Registration is open for the Astrophotography Workshop scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11 at Valles Caldera National Preserve.

With Valles Caldera (an International Dark Sky Park) as an outdoor classroom, photographers Stan Ford and Richard Gonzales will guide program participants through the basics of astrophotography.

Learn how to adjust and optimize DSLR camera settings, select a shooting location, and, of course, shoot spectacular images of the night sky.

Heading into the New Year, New Mexico’s snowpack is suffering from the lack of precipitation and warmer-than-normal daytime temperatures. The snowpack last week was just 18 percent of normal.

There can be some strong storms later this winter. They will be needed.

Family ‘Noon Year’s Eve’ At Mesa & White Rock Libraries

Mesa Public Library and White Rock Branch Library are hosting activities, music and fun for families to ring in the new year, 10:30 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 31.

Children and families are invited to dress in their fancy clothes or favorite costumes and visit either library for a “Noon Year’s Eve” party with festive balloons dropping at noon.

All ages are welcome. The crafts and activities are geared toward 4-10 year olds.
