FUNM To Host Fort Fashions & Pastimes July 13-14

WATROUS — Fort Union National Monument announces its Fort Fashions & Pastimes programs to be held Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.

The free programs will feature 1800s clothing styles, leisure activities, and how both related to economics and social structures of the time. Living history staff and volunteers will portray soldier and civilian life.

The two daily formal presentations are about 45-minutes long with seating available:

  • 10 a.m. – Fort Fashions & Pastimes presentation; and
  • 1 p.m. – Fort Fashions & Pastimes presentation.

Fort Stanton Live Postponed Due To Lincoln County Fires

New Mexico Department of Cultural Affairs (NMDCA) announces that due to Fort Stanton Historic Site’s proximity to the South Fork and Salt wildfires in the Ruidoso and Mescalero areas of Lincoln County, the July 13 event, Fort Stanton Live, has been postponed until the fall.

While the site has not been under imminent fire risk, the emergency needs of the community are essential. Fort Stanton Historic Site supports the emergency and recovery efforts for the surrounding communities.

Las Cumbres Community Services Offers Family Resources

From Las Cumbres Community Services Center:

Las Cumbres Community Services Center (LCCS) in Los Alamos is a great resource and Community partner for the families of Los Alamos. Once monthly LCCS hosts a community parent group get together where parents and children can come and participate in fun and educational activities.

Parents with children are invited to Child Development Drop-in Playtime with Las Cumbres Specialists, 9-11 a.m. Monday, July 1 at 1060 Nugget St.

On June 24 LCCS hosted a Play-Doh extravaganza in which parents and their young children learned to make homemade Play-Doh. Read More

Lone Piñon Performs At Coronado Historic Site July 14

Coronado Historic Site will host a concert with New Mexico favorites, Lone Piñon, as they perform traditional New Mexican music 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 14.

Lone Piñon is a collective of four expert musicians who travel the country and world performing their collaborative interpretation of the New Mexico musical traditions they have learned from elder culture-bearers.

They will take the audience on a musical journey through the New Mexican musical landscape—through several centuries of bailes, wedding parties, fandangos, and fiestas that have shaped the state’s musical inheritance. Read More

SANTA FE — The Santa Fe Opera announces soprano and Apprentice singer Rachel Fitzgerald will make her Santa Fe Opera debut in the role of Donna Anna in Don Giovanni with performances on June 29, July 5 and July 10. The originally scheduled soprano Teresa Perrotta has withdrawn for personal reasons. The casting for the role in the remaining performances will be announced at a later date.

Free West Coast Swing Dancing And Lessons At Betty Ehart Senior Center Starting Monday July 1

Every Monday (except County holidays) from 7-9 p.m. everyone is welcome to free ballroom dancing and lessons at the Betty Ehart Senior Center Center. It is a Los Alamos County Activity organized by Terry Goodwin and Selmo Jaramillo. Every month they focus on a particular ballroom dance, and in July the focus is West Coast Swing.
