County & Derby Dames To Host Roller Skate Night July 12

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Recreation Division and the Derby Dames are hosting a Roller Skate Night, 6-10 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

Roller Skate Nights will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout July.

Tuesdays @ The Square: High Desert Rangers July 8

Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District News:

This week’s Tuesdays @ the Square, presented by Los Alamos MainStreet & Creative District, will feature High Desert Rangers, 6-8 p.m. July 8 on the lawn in the Central Park Square next to Boese Bros. 

High Desert Rangers are New Mexico’s premier bluegrass band, made up of the top players in the state. They offer killer three-part harmonies, top-level musicianship, and a great catalog of songs. This is live music at its zenith.

There is a beer garden and opportunities for picnicking at this event.

The community is invited to enjoy a summer evening in the park with a fun, family-oriented movie. Bring your blankets, pajamas and snacks to watch a movie under the stars!

The Movies in the Park program utilizes various parks throughout Los Alamos County.

Children Invited To Read With A Fish Hatchery Crew July 9

Children are invited to “Read with a Fish Hatchery Crew”, 2-3 p.m. Wednesday, July 9, at the White Rock Branch Library, 10 Sherwood Blvd.

Every Wednesday, which began in June and runs through July 23, the White Rock Branch Library is hosting its second annual “Read with a Ranger” series.

Special guests from the community – physicists and firefighters, police officers and garbage truck drivers, a nurse and a construction worker, a fish hatchery manager and an animal control officer – have been and will read picture books and lead activities focused on their areas of expertise. Some Read More

The Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) is hosting Summer Family Evening: Get Wild About Wildlife at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 9 at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.

The community is invited to attend and learn about some of the famous animals of Valles Caldera National Preserve, including Rocky Mountain elk, black bears, Gunnison’s prairie dogs, Jemez Mountain salamanders, pika, and more.

County: Open Boating At Aquatic Center July 8

COUNTY News:

The next date for open boating is Tuesday, July 8, 7:10-8:10 p.m. at the Aquatic Center at 2760 Canyon Road. Open boating provides practice time for boaters using canoes, kayaks and rafts.

The doors open half an hour earlier for boat cleaning before entry. All watercraft must be rinsed off on the patio prior to pool entry. Boaters must provide their own boats.

All participants must have a wristband from the front desk before entering the pool. Life jackets are recommended for participants.
