The first few days of summer vacation were hard on Billy. He was there, at his appointed post – that being the school crossing – at the right time of morning, but look as he may, he couldn’t find any kids.

He couldn’t find Martin, either. The perennial crossing guard, with his vest, sign and whistle, was home for the summer. So were the kids. School was out.

Billy, being the official town dog since Sally passed away on Doc’s porch, decided on the fourth day of no kids that he might as well do something else.

Motorists can expect a lane closure and flagging operations on Sherwood Blvd because of work on the Pinon Park Splash Pad project. The contractor will be working on a water line tie-in, weather and scheduling dependent.

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE — With some schools providing in-person learning at reduced capacity, the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) reminds drivers to watch for children in and around school zones. 

“It has been a while since drivers have had to slow down in school zones, stop for school buses or wait for children and parents to clear crosswalks,” Transportation Secretary Mike Sandoval said. “We don’t want anyone getting hurt. Be extra vigilant and keep an eye out for kids, especially around school zones.”

Utility Work On Trinity At 15th Moved To Monday, Aug. 24

TRAFFIC ALERT:

The new schedule of work for ABI Mechanical, under contract with Natural Grocers is moved to next week.

Weather permitting, crews will tie the new grocery store into Los Alamos County’s water, natural gas and sewer systems on Trinity Drive and 15th Street, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Monday, Aug. 24 through Tuesday, Sep. 8.

ABI crews will be working in the road on Trinity at the 15th Street intersection. Various lane drops will occur at different times and affect traffic in the area.

Traffic Alert: Large Transports Enter Community Wednesday

TRAFFIC ALERT:

Los Alamos County Traffic and Streets Crews, working in conjunction with Los Alamos Police Department officers, will assist in the transport of two over-sized units through Los Alamos at different times during the day Wednesday.

First, during early morning hours and ahead of the morning commute peak travel time, a large crane will enter Los Alamos from N.M. 502 and travel westbound on Trinity Drive to Diamond Drive, then to Sullivan Field.

Travel should occur prior to the start of the work day on the N.M. 502 Roundabout and Trinity Drive construction improvements.
