LAHS Trumpeter Finalist in Carnegie Hall Program

Los Alamos High School trumpeter Aaron Bao has been accepted as a finalist in the honors band for the 2013 American High School Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall in New York next summer.

Last June, he was selected as a member of the National Association of Music Education National Honor Ensemble and performed at the Kennedy Center.

A senior, Bao has played trumpet since fifth grade. He successfully auditioned for all-state and Southwest Honor Band in 10th and 11th grade.

Los Alamos Opera Guild Hosts Holiday Event

Los Alamos Opera Guild will hold its membership meeting and holiday party at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 at the White Rock home of Roland and Anna Caspersen.

The party theme is holiday traditions and cultural heritage and perspective members are encouraged to attend.

Guild members are asked to share something of their tradition or heritage at the meeting through traditional food, drink, dress or memento.

‘WinterFest’ Kicks Off Holiday Fun Dec. 7-9

Winterfest 2012 begins Friday, Dec. 7 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 9.

WinterFest begins with the 19th annual Los Alamos Crèche Show, held annually on the first weekend of December.

“Crèches,” or nativity scenes featuring the Christ child, are prominently displayed by Los Alamos residents for all to see.

Because Los Alamos’ residents come from all over the world, there is always a myriad of beautiful crèches on display.

LAPS Choir Boosters Hold Harmony Workshop

Los Alamos Public Schools Choir Boosters are presenting a harmony workshop featuring 540 Express from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Church of Christ, 2323 Diamond Drive.

540 Express is an all-male a cappella group comprised of singers and educators from Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The workshop will cover musical literacy, harmony, and tone quality and is open to all students in grades six through 12. Students will perform two pieces with 540 Express at a concert at 7 p.m. at the same location.
