Letter To The Editor: County Decisions!

By GERALD ANTOS
Los Alamos

Well how about that? Another complete strike out for our dutiful county council. Except for the one member that voted against this move to transfer the Sheriff’s duties to the LAPD, our council has proven that they have no hind sight nor forward thinking abilities at all!

Sure they want to investigate why there are law suits being lost and all, but they completely fail to see that biggest issue is the leadership in the LAPD that is doing the things that the county is being sued for.

It amounts to the attitude at the top trickling down through the ranks and except for those special Read More

Letter To The Editor: White Rock’s Newest Destination For Eating

By ALAN WADLINGER
Los Alamos

My wife and I plus another couple ate at Don Villa’s Restaurant in White Rock last Thursday evening.

I had the Green Chile Chicken Enchilada Plate, my wife had the Corn Beef Rubin, and the other couple feasted on the Carne Adovada Plate and the Chimichanga.

All four meals were very good and the service was excellent. I am happy to say that “White Rock is the destination for eating!”

Letter To The Editor: Persona Non Grata

By DIANA NORWOOD
Los Alamos

I am “first” American … “second” New Mexican. Regardless of my political persuasions; I find that Mr. Trump’s recent behavior was so obnoxious, it deserves commentary.

We are one of the most wonderfully diverse states. We’re a cultural treasure chest, here in the United States. I don’t always agree with our state government; and/or Governor Martinez.

However; she’s “our” governor and a degree of respect is in order. The audacity and lack of good taste that Mr. Trump displays; coming into “our” state ( Read More

Letter To The Editor: Glad County Halts Weed Spraying

By JUTTA KAYSER
Los Alamos

I am happy to read that the weed spraying has been stopped, as this poses a danger to humans and animals.

Last year, I was walking our senior dog behind Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock where he ate some grass that was growing along the schoolyard fence. As I walked him there again the next day, I noticed that all the weeds were dead, which signaled to me that someone must have sprayed them.

The days that followed were extremely scary for us, as our dog developed severe diarrhea, which lasted several days. Thank goodness, he survived. Read More

Letter To The Editor: To The Police Officer Who Pulled Me Over By The Tree At The Golf Course

By Los Alamos Resident

To the police officer who pulled me over by the tree at the golf course … thanks for offering a word of safety advice to me instead of finding a way to write a ticket.

I know that police around the country have been shown in a bad light recently, but there are still some looking out for the safety of the civilians.

While I don’t agree with everything the police do in Los Alamos, I have more appreciation after last night. Read More

Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity’

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB
Los Alamos

“The Man Who Knew Infinity” tells the story of renowned mathematical theorist, Srinivasa Ramanujan Iyengar (1887-1920). Living in poverty in India, Ramanujan is a genius in number theory, but is completely unknown to the math world. How he gets to Cambridge and finally gets published and honored is the plotline of this film.

Movie poster for “The Man Who Knew Infinity.”

Playing Ramanujan is Dev Patel, whom we recognize from his compelling lead roles in Slumdog Millionaire and The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (and Second Best…).

Letter To The Editor: It Takes A Village To Fill A Pantry

By LA Cares Board
Los Alamos

In a single day, the LA Cares shelves went from practically empty to almost full.

Saturday, May 14, the local members of the National Letter Carriers Association, assisted by Scouts from the Sangre de Cristo District,  held their semi-annual food drive. An estimated seven tons of food, set next to mailboxes all over town, and contributed by shoppers at both Smith’s stores, was picked up, sorted and moved into storage.

The hard work of the Carriers, the Cubs, Boy Scouts and Venture crew members,  he use of the Knights of Columbus Hall for sorting, and Read More

Letter To The Editor: Beloved Betrayed – You Are Loved

By Los Alamos Citizen

In response to the letter in the Feb. 4 Los Alamos Daily Post, Beloved Betrayed, I should have written this letter way back in February when the original letter was published.

The only thing needed for evil to prevail is for good “men” to do nothing. I think someone famous said that.

Betrayed you were taught lies by our society in many ways that you are just a lump of cells accidently put together. You have been betrayed by society. You’re not animals without purpose. You are precious. Many of the adults involved in your lives were likely taught the same lie, or worse, like me they Read More
