Letter To The Editor: Elizabeth Allen Will Take Municipal Court To The Next Level

By BILL WADT
Los Alamos

We have the opportunity to take our Municipal Court to the next level by electing Elizabeth Allen.

She has years of experience as a trial attorney for both plaintiffs and defendants. Elizabeth has had the opportunity to argue in front of more than 20 judges to observe both good and bad judicial practice.

Experience is normally a good thing but sitting on the same bench for many years can lead judges to an “I’ve seen this before” mindset, which can yield faulty decisions.

Elizabeth has worked with children with disabilities, child protection services, Read More

Letter To The Editor: Why I Endorse James Rickman

By BILL WADT
Los Alamos

I am voting for Jim Rickman to be our next Magistrate Judge. I strongly urge you to do the same.

In New Mexico, magistrate judges are only required to have a high school degree or equivalent, unless the judicial district has 200,000 people or more. We need a judge with more than the minimal requirements to provide a more effective, equitable, evidence-based experience for plaintiffs, defendants, and victims and to improve the poor reputation of our magistrate court for ignorance of legal requirements and procedures.

I have known and worked with Jim Rickman for years. Read More

Chama Mayor: Public Transportation Vital To Connecting Rural Communities To Opportunities

By BILLY ELBROCK
Mayor, Village of Chama

One of the benefits of living in a remote community is the option to “get away from it all” … to have the opportunity to be in a small town and experience simple living, enjoying nature and outdoor activities.

However, the reality is the Village of Chama is 80 to100 miles away from a city of any size. What makes us stand out as a desirable place to live can also be viewed as a drawback to some people.

Enter the “Blue Bus” system, formally known as the North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD).

The Blue Bus is VERY important

Letter To The Editor: The Tangled Web – Truth-telling In Political Life

By RICHARD SKOLNIK
White Rock

I commend Father Jones for bringing to our attention the importance of truth-telling in political life (link).

“There are six things which the LORD hates, seven which are an abomination to him: haughty eyes, a lying tongue … a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that make haste to run to evil, a false witness who breathes out lies, and a man who sows discord among brothers.” (Proverbs 6:16-19)”

We have a President who has mocked women, Hispanic people, black people, disabled people, immigrants, war heroes, and gold star families, among others. Clearly, “sowing Read More

Letter To The Editor: A Century Link Problem

By JIM GRIFFIN
Los Alamos

Are you paying for DSL WiFi from Century Link? Are you receiving the download speed you are paying for? I’m not! I am paying for 20 mbps but falling short.

I do not use wired internet access within my home. All my access is wireless. My internal WiFi data speed is 144 mbps.

I have measured the actual download speed from Century Link as varying from 9 mbps-13 mbps over several days using Hewlett Packard’s speed test, the OOKLA speed test and the FCC’s (Federal Communication Commision) speed test. Not close to 20 mbps is it?

Letter To The Editor: Questioning Lisa Shin’s Ethics

By JAMES LITTLE
Los Alamos

I was dismayed when I thought that the Los Alamos Daily Post had “endorsed” Lisa Shin by their publication of the “free” issue of the “The Los Alamos Post” (TLAP).

This self aggrandizement issue certainly is not becoming Lisa. I spent several minutes trying to locate who paid for this political advertisement. I located it in tiny print on the next to last page.

The Sept. 27 issue of the Los Alamos Daily Post carries a column (link) rebutting and clarifying that they did not endorse Lisa and stating that newspaper ethics were abridged.

Letter To The Editor: Thank You Community For Such Great Support For Historical Society’s Gala

By Marlane Hamilton, Gala Committee Chair
Heather McClenahan, Executive Director

Once again the community of Los Alamos has come together to celebrate its history. The results, commemorating the 100th anniversary of Boy Scouts in Los Alamos, the 75th anniversary of the laboratory, and the 50th anniversary of the History Museum, were a fantastic fundraiser for the Los Alamos Historical Society and fun party for all who attended.

The Los Alamos Historical Society’s 5th annual gala was held Saturday, Sept. 15, at the historic Edward P. Fuller Lodge. An event of this size and scope cannot be put Read More

Letter To The Editor: The Realization Of Ruination

By MIKE ADAMS
Los Alamos

I have been struggling!

…Really struggling!

For the better part of a few years, I’ve slowly been realizing, much to my horror, that I will likely never be appointed to serve as a justice on the supreme court of the United States of America. This is quite a blow to my search for meaning in life.

Ever since realizing my predicament, I have vacillated between feeling that life is ruined and feeling that maybe my sense of ruination is perhaps hyperbolic. But when yesterday I read that Lindsay Graham would not ruin Brett Kavanaugh’s life by voting against his appointment to Read More

Letter To The Editor: It’s About Respect Mr. Moseley…

By LYNN HANRAHAN
Los Alamos

The subject of the flow trail divides my family. I believe it’s just another sign of an elitist, out of touch county government inflicting its will on the citizens of the town once again. My son feels differently. He is a cyclist who spends lots of time with those who want the trail built.

The idea of a flow trail in Bayo Canyon divides us. It divides us like the discussion over the Rec Bond did. It divides us like the decision of the County Council to send inspectors out to measure our weeds last year did. It divides us like the decision of the County to invest a large sum of Read More
