Community Invited To Cheer On Special Olympics Athletes And Police In Torch Run Thursday

SPORTS News:

The community is invited to cheer on Special Olympics Los Alamos athletes and Los Alamos Police Department personnel as they head out towards the Jemez Thursday morning on the Law Enforcement Torch Run, according to local organizer LAPD Cdr. Oliver Morris.

Participants will leave the Justice Center at approximately 7:30 a.m. and head west on Trinity Drive and onto West Jemez Road and the members of the public can show their support along the way. Park Rangers from Bandelier National Monument will join the run this year.

Police Nab Brothers Attempting To Cash Forged Check

Two brothers from Albuquerque were arrested Monday at Los Alamos National Bank in White Rock after one of them attempted to cash a forged check for $2,250. Eric Sanchez, 29, and Kevin Sanchez, 24, were in a car in the drive-through area when Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto responded to a report of someone attempting to cash a stolen check.

Los Alamos Police Seek Public’s Help Identifying Dog That Attacked Another Dog At Rover Park Sunday

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department is asking the public for assistance in identifying the owners of a dog that attacked another dog last weekend.

The incident happened around 11 a.m. Sunday at Rover Park. The suspect dog was described as possibly a male “cane corso” or a very similar looking mastiff type dog, black in color and weighing about 100 pounds.

Los Alamos Woman Beaten And Robbed

A Los Alamos woman in her 80s was followed home from Smith’s Marketplace Friday, May 12, by two women and beaten and robbed outside her garage. She has asked to remain anonymous.

In an interview with the Los Alamos Daily Post, the victim said that while she was getting ready to put her purchases into the trunk of her car in the Smith’s parking lot, a young woman asked if she could help her. The victim said she declined the help but the young woman insisted.

Couple Faces 54 Charges In 17 Cases In Los Alamos

John Joseph Lerma, 42, of Albuquerque and Rosalinda Hurtado, 38, of Alcalde are facing a total of 54 charges in some 17 cases originating in Los Alamos Magistrate Court and now in First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe. Lerma and Hurtado were reportedly in a romantic relationship when they allegedly committed multiple crimes including check fraud, identity theft, forgery, fraud, and fraudulent use of credit cards, against Los Alamos residents of all ages from high school students to the elderly.
