DEA Brings In Record Amount Of Unused Prescription Drugs On National Prescription Take Back Day

WASHINGTON, D.C.  The U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and more than 4,200 of its law enforcement and community partners collected more unused prescription drugs than at any of the 12 previous National Prescription Drug Take Back Day events.
 
On Saturday, April 29, the event brought in 900,386 pounds (450 tons) at close to 5,500 sites across the nation. Marking the 13th National Prescription Take Back Day since September 2010, these events have altogether collected 8,103,363 pounds (4,052 tons) of prescription drugs.

The Los Alamos Police Department is inviting the community to drop by the Central Avenue side of the stateion 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Monday to get a blue stripe placed on the back window of their vehicles, in support of law enforcement for Police Week, which is May 14-20.

Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run May 18

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department will begin running the torch Thursda, May 18, for the Special Olympics Law Enforcement Torch Run.

There may be slight traffic delays as officers begin to run the torch from LAPD along Trinity toward the back-gate and on to Jemez Springs.

LAPD partners with Special Olympics New Mexico to raise money and awareness for local athletes to participate in New Mexico State sponsored athletic competitions. Read More

LAPD Conducting Traffic Enforcement, Focusing On Accident Related Violations

LAPD News:

Starting now and continuing through the summer, the Los Alamos Police Department will be conducting traffic enforcement, focusing on accident related violations to include seatbelt enforcement.

There also will be random DWI checkpoints conducted throughout the county during this time frame.

The public can help reduce the risk of vehicle crashes by adhering to posted speed limit signs, allowing enough room between them and the vehicle they are following and driving with caution when roadways are wet.

Officers also will be on the lookout for impaired drivers for the next few months. Read More

STAFF REPORT

A preliminary examination for Joseph Gonzales on charges of negligent arson, child abuse, attempted distribution/possession with intent to sell a controlled substance, use or possession of drug paraphernalia, and trafficking, was continued. Assistant District Attorney Kent Wahlquist said the federal government is still investigating the case. Gonzales was arrested in connection with the May 4, 2016 explosion at a Los Alamos apartment complex.
