Beware Of Local Telephone Scam Underway

LAPD Alert:

The Los Alamos Police Department issued the following information to alert the community to a possible telephone scam underway in the area.

A woman contacted the police to report that she received a telephone call from someone pretending to be the IRS and informing her that she owed money to the IRS. 

They asked her if she had an attorney, to which she stated that she didn’t. The woman told police that her husband typically takes care of the bills and the taxes, and she was certain he had done so.

Battered Los Alamos Man Charged With Crime

Battered and bloody, a 23-year-old Los Alamos man told police two men dressed in black, one wearing red shoes, attacked him in the parking lot of the VFW on Deacon Street.

Paul J. Martinez described the melee to police, saying he was walking in the parking lot March 5 when out of nowhere a fist made contact with his left temple, causing him to feel dizzy and black out, according to police. Martinez added that the men stole cash from him.

LAPD’s Drug Take Back Day April 26

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department will hold a DEA Drug Take Back Day with two collections sites 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 26.

This is an opportunity for the public to turn in any old, unused or unwanted prescription drugs.

LAPD will be providing two collection sites: 

SITE 1:  Los Alamos Medical Center parking lot, specifically the east end along Trinity Drive; and

SITE 2: White Rock Visitor Center parking lot.
