County Announces 4th Of July Spectacular At Overlook Park

The 4th of July is right around the corner and Los Alamos County is gearing up for the big event! The 4th of July Spectacular will be held 4-10 p.m. Thursday, July 4th at Overlook Park in White Rock.

The entertainment begins with the Los Alamos Community Winds, which has been a staple at 4th of July events and feature many of the area’s best classically trained musicians.

Coronado Historic Site (link) offers extended hours from dawn until dusk, 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., on the First Sunday of each month beginning July 7, to allow visitors an opportunity to see the site at these beautiful times of day.

The early mornings are a great time to see a multitude of different birds, while the evenings offer unparalleled views of the Sandia Mountains glowing pink at sunset. Activities for people of all ages are available throughout the day.

Spots Still Open For Weeks 4 & 6 Of YESCorps Program

Y News:

Registration spots are still open for YESCorps weeks 4 and 6. Participants will learn by doing, make new friends and have fun.

Activities planned for those two weeks include:

  • Backpacking/orienteering training;
  • Trips to Valles Caldera National Monument;
  • PEEC gardening projects; and
  • YCC trail work experience.

On the Fun Fridays, participants will get to play frisbee golf, BBQ and other games at North Mesa Picnic Grounds for one Friday and do the climbing wall and Lu Games for the second Friday.

APPB Calls For Art Survey & Public Feedback On Proposed Mosaic Glass Art Installation For Golf Cart Staging Wall

The Los Alamos County Art in Public Places Board (APP) invites community feedback on a proposed mosaic glass art installation for the golf cart staging wall at the Los Alamos County Golf Course.

Community members can share their input through an online survey, available at the Golf Course, Summer Concert Series, and at the upcoming June APP public board meeting.

County Invites Community To BMX Track Listening Session

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division is seeking feedback from the community for the proposed BMX track on North Mesa. With a new project manager and new contractor, Actions Sports Design, the project team is starting fresh with a listening session.

Community members are invited to meet the new team and provide input at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 20 at Fuller Lodge, 2132 Central Ave.
