51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon: A Challenging Race At 7,400 Ft. Elevation, July 19

The 51st Annual Los Alamos Triathlon will take place on Saturday, July 19, 2025, beginning at 7:30 AM. Known as one of the oldest continuously running triathlons, this event offers both seasoned and beginner athletes the opportunity to challenge themselves in a unique and scenic setting at an elevation of 7,400 ft.

County Golf Course Review: July Update For 2025 Season

Los Alamos County staff have been monitoring the golf course and, as published, performed a review of the course on Monday, July 7 to provide better clarity and to ensure optimal conditions for play.

The updated schedule below reflects changes in course availability and ongoing preparations.

Updated details:

  • Front nine and chipping green will open July 18, 19, and 20, with some areas not available for play.
  • Tee times will be available for reservation online beginning 6 a.m. Sunday, July 13, or in the Golf Shop beginning July 16.

Department Postpones Youth Encouragement And Leftover License Sales

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish has announced the postponement of its annual youth encouragement and leftover license sales due to changes with the Wells Fargo payment process.

“This delay is unfortunate, and the Department apologizes for the inconvenience, but this delay is necessary to ensure the system operates fairly and efficiently,” director Mike Sloane said. “The Department is working diligently to address the problem.”

As is typical of monsoon season here in New Mexico, the showers were hit-or-miss last week. It is best if you are a gardener to stick to a regular routine of watering and not rely on Mother Nature.

Zuni Youth Enrichment Project Equips 20 Young Adults With Counselor Training For Summer Camp Serving 120 Children

ZUNI, N.M. — Ahead of its Wellness Week and 17th Annual Summer Camp serving 120 Zuni children, the Zuni Youth Enrichment Project provided an intensive counselor training and retreat experience for 20 young adults, June 9-20. Wellness Week took place June 23-26, and Summer Camp started June 30 and will run through July 25.

The counselors participated in five days of training with ZYEP and community partners, a three-day retreat at Cottonwood Gulch Basecamp and Mt. Taylor, and four additional training days at ZYEP. The training included a significant focus on Zuni language.

Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range In Clayton To Close Every Third Wednesday For Maintenance

CLAYTON — The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish will close its Stephen M. Bush Memorial Shooting Range for maintenance at sunrise on the third Wednesday of each month, beginning July 16.

The range will reopen at sunrise the following day. The closure will allow contractors to safely perform maintenance and remove trash and debris from the range. Public access to the range will be completely restricted on days the range is closed.

Aquatic Center Closing 8am-3pm July 29 For Training

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Aquatic Center’s Olympic Pool and Therapy Pool will be temporarily closed, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29, for a scheduled in-service training.

During this time, Aquatic Center staff and community members will receive training on the new Colorado Timing System, which will be used for hosting swim meets and other timed events.

The Leisure Lagoon will remain open during normal hours on July 29.

The Aquatic Center’s Olympic Pool and Therapy Pool will reopen and resume normal operations after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29.
