County & Derby Dames To Host Roller Skate Night July 12

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Recreation Division and the Derby Dames are hosting a Roller Skate Night, 6-10 p.m. Saturday, July 12, at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

Roller Skate Nights will be held on Thursdays and Saturdays throughout July.

County: Open Boating At Aquatic Center July 8

COUNTY News:

The next date for open boating is Tuesday, July 8, 7:10-8:10 p.m. at the Aquatic Center at 2760 Canyon Road. Open boating provides practice time for boaters using canoes, kayaks and rafts.

The doors open half an hour earlier for boat cleaning before entry. All watercraft must be rinsed off on the patio prior to pool entry. Boaters must provide their own boats.

All participants must have a wristband from the front desk before entering the pool. Life jackets are recommended for participants.

New Hours For Myrtle Street Pickleball Begin July 7

As pickleball continues to grow in popularity, Los Alamos County “kindly asks all players to be mindful of noise levels on and around the courts”. 

To ensure a fun and organized playing experience for everyone, please note that the official hours of operation for the Myrtle Street Pickleball Court start on Monday, July 7.

Myrtle Street Pickleball Court New Hours of Operation:

  • Monday – Sunday: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Courts are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless reserved.
  • Courts will be closed and locked at 6 p.m. daily.

New Mexico Adopts “Idaho Stop” For Cyclists

SANTA FE — New Mexico became the latest state to allow bicyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs and red lights as stop signs under Senate Bill 73, which took effect July 1 and was signed into law by Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham following the 2025 legislative session.

The law makes New Mexico one of approximately a dozen states to adopt what’s commonly known as the “Idaho Stop,” named after the first state to pass such legislation in 1982.
