The Twin Cabins Wildfire ignited at 1 p.m., June 23, in the Jemez Ranger District.
The location is near the northwest boundary between Valles Caldera National Preserve and Santa Fe National Forest, adjacent to Forest Road 144 and Twin Cabins Canyon.

NM Veterans Get Free Day Use, Camping At State Parks

SANTA FE — Starting July 1, New Mexico resident veterans are eligible for a lifetime pass for day-use and camping access to all New Mexico State Parks. Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed House Bill 161 to provide recreational opportunities for New Mexico veterans in the last legislative session. The New Mexico State Parks Division (NMSP) partnered with the Department of Veterans’ Services (NMDVS) to quickly implement this new benefit.

SANTA FE — New Mexico State Parks welcomes a new law enforcement officer to Navajo Lake State Park and to its dedicated team of State Park Rangers. Park Ranger Oran Hurst received certification from the San Juan County Criminal Justice Training Authority-Basic Police Academy on June 13, in Farmington, New Mexico. Hurst was named valedictorian of his academy class, recording the highest academic score and delivering the valedictorian address during the graduation ceremony.

The Atomic City Road Runner’s weekly pace race held Tuesday in Rendija Canyon was hampered by rain approximately halfway into the race and the predict slips were not usable for accurate predictions.
In the 1-mile distance Max Davis, 3, was the top finisher at 12:35 and the first female was Aster Zavoria, 2, with a time of 26:13.
Madeline Harms was the best finisher in the 2-mile race, recording a 19:12 and Warren Scoggins was the first male finisher at 23:22.

The weather has been hot for the last week or two here in Northern New Mexico.
Under these conditions fishing in the early morning or evening hours is often the best time to be out. Trout in lakes will be moving into deeper water seeking cooler water temperatures.
There is rain in the forecast for the upcoming week. Be sure to bring some rain gear with you. Fishing during a shower can be productive.
The State Game and Fish Department continues to stock bigger-than-average rainbow trout at different locations in Northern New Mexico. Read More
