Cowboy Shoot At Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club Pistol Pits Saturday, April 16

Los Alamos Sportsmen’s Club Pistol Pits is hosting a “Cowboy Shoot” starting at 9 a.m. (Set up is 8:30 a.m.), Saturday, April 16.

This SASS ruled event occurs every third Saturday, weather permitting.

The shooting competition is staged in a unique, characterized, “Old West” style. Clothing attire and accoutrements, as well as the guns used, that reflects this period of the American West is required/encouraged to shoot in these events. Pinon Elementary School is hosting its annual fun run at 9 a.m. April 23. The Earth Day themed event supports the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

Celebrate going green by participating in this year’s event!  It is tons of fun for the whole family.

Snow Top Predictor In Opening Race Of Atomic City Road Runners 43rd Season

Mary Snow was only 7 seconds off her predicted time in the first pace race of the season held on the Canyon Rim Trail. Other accurate predictors were Duane Marr with an 18 second differential, Zach Medin at 28 seconds off, and Lynn Bjorklund recording a 31 second difference.
 
In the 1 mile race Tamara Jurado was the top finisher with a 10:30 time. Brothers Anders Medin at age six and Adrian Medin, age five recorded 13:47 and 14:14 respectively for best male finishers.

Valles Caldera National Preserve Plans Prescribed Burn For Valle Grande This Spring

The Valles Caldera National Preserve is looking for an opportunity to implement a prescribed burn project this spring.

The prescribed burn will target up to 1,471 acres of grass in the Valle Grande, adjacent to N.M. 4 between mile markers 39-42. Some traffic delays may occur during the ignition phases of the burn, but we do not anticipate any road closures. If conditions permit, burn operations will occur during mid-day in order minimize impacts to morning and afternoon commuter traffic on N.M. 4. The burn operations should take one to three days to complete.
