Red River Skijoring Races Jan. 16-17

RED RIVER  The inaugural Red River Skijoring races are noon Saturday, Jan. 16 and Sunday Jan. 17 on River Street in Red River. 
 
In skijoring, a skier hangs on to a rope attached to a horse and glides across the snow. It is like horse-drawn waterskiing on snow. Best of all Skijoring is a thrilling spectator sport. 
 
With speeds of up to 40 mph, the action is fast-paced and exciting. You see the skiers being towed by a horse at a full gallop. Horse. Cowboy. Skier. Rope. This high-adrenaline, sport combines all four.

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area Receives Acclaim From Skiing Magazine And National Geographic

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area recently received recognition by Skiing Magazine and National Geographic Magazine as well as New Mexico’s association of ski resorts.
 
And, the good news keeps coming for the Los Alamos ski area: thanks to this week’s winter storms that dropped nearly two feet of snow on the mountain, resort officials announced that most of the skiable terrain will be open for powder skiing this Saturday.

Pajarito Mountain Ski Area recently received recognition by Skiing Magazine and National Geographic Magazine as well as New Mexico’s association of ski resorts.

Prescribed Burn On Santa Fe National Forest

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning a prescribed pile burn on the Cuba Ranger District. 

The La Jara prescribed pile burn, a total of 77 acres located just northeast of the community of La Jara, may be conducted Jan. 1 through March 30, 2016, only on favorable days as conditions allow. Small blocks may be treated each day to decrease the daily smoke volume.
