Jemez Mountain Trail Runs Announces Raffle For Secundino Sandoval Original Painting

The 10th Annual Jemez Mountain Trails Runs are scheduled for Saturday, May 23.

This year’s poster art is an original watercolor by Secundino Sandoval. All runners and volunteers get a poster. We are raffling off the original with framing by Village Arts to benefit the race. Tickets are $5 each or five tickets for $20. Tickets can be purchased at Village Arts, Fusion Multisport, and CB FOX. Drawing will be May 22 at the pre-race dinner.

Valles Caldera Trust Plans Prescribed Burn For Valle Grande

JEMEZ SPRINGS – The Valles Caldera Trust is looking for an opportunity to conduct a prescribed burn project on the Valles Caldera National Preserve in April or early May. 

The project will last for 1-3 days. The prescribed burn will target up to 1,471 acres of grassland in the Valle Grande, adjacent to N.M. 4 near mile marker 39.2. If conditions are suitable to implement the burn, some traffic delays may occur during the ignition phases of the burn but road closures are not expected.

Charles Strickfaden To Serve As Interim Superintendent Of Valles Caldera National Preserve

DENVER – Charles Strickfaden, a 30-year veteran of the National Park Service (NPS), has been named interim Superintendent of the newly established Valles Caldera National Preserve in northern New Mexico, according to Intermountain Regional Director Sue Masica.

Strickfaden will assume his new duties in mid-April.

“Charles’s diverse and wide-ranging skills and knowledge in all aspects of park management have prepared him well to assist with the transition of Valles Caldera National Preserve as the newest addition to National Park Service,” Masica said. Read More

Geologist Patrick Rowe will lead another outing for PEEC, this time to look for fossils at Battleship Rock in the Jemez Mountains.

In this area Madera Limestone is prevalent, which has long been known for its wonderfully preserved marine fossils. The outing will meet at 9 a.m. Saturday, April 11 at the “old PEEC” at 3540 Orange St. It is free to attend, but registration is required.

Register For Chamisa Elementary Glow Run 2015

Chamisa Elementary PTO will be hosting its third annual Glow Run May 2. This fun event features a one mile as well as a 5k race event starting at 7 p.m., about an hour before sunset. 
 
Registration fees are $20 for adults and $10 for children under 18. In order to secure a t-shirt and a glow stick, registration must be completed prior to April 17. Day of registration is allowed and is the same price, but t-shirts will not be available and glow sticks may be limited.
