CDT Completion Act Reintroduced Bicamerally

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The bicameral Continental Divide Trail Completion Act was reintroduced last week, sponsored by Sens. Martin Heinrich (NM) and Steve Daines (MT) and Reps. Joe Neguse (CO) and Teresa Leger Fernandez (NM). The bill directs the Secretaries of Agriculture and the Interior to prioritize completion of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail (CDT) within ten years of enactment.

County Shares Golf Course Review Update For 2025 Season

Los Alamos County staff have been monitoring the golf course and as published, performed a review of the course on April 14, to provide better clarity and to ensure optimal conditions for play.

The updated schedule reflects changes in course availability and ongoing preparations.

Bandelier’s Summer Shuttle Service Begins May 14, 2025

NPS News:

Bandelier National Monument is beginning its free summer shuttle service May 14, 2025 to Frijoles Canyon. The shuttle, provided by Atomic City Transit, boards at the Frey Trail Parking Lot in the park and starting at 10 a.m. runs every 10 minutes.

Unlike previous years, the shuttle is not mandatory unless the parking lots in the canyon are filled up. Also, there will be no shuttle service to the White Rock Visitor Center. Anderson Is Best Predictor In Weekly Pace Race

Eric Anderson was the best predictor in the weekly pace race held on the road in lower Bayo Canyon. He was 5 seconds off his predicted time as well as the top finisher in the 3 mile distance at 20:25. Other accurate predictors were: David Kunsberg with a 9 second differential; Tony Borek at 15 seconds off; Lynn Bjorklund had a 17 second difference and also was the first female finisher on the 3 mile course recording a 25:43; and Zack Medin with a 19 second differential.

This last week saw unseasonably warm temperatures with several cities throughout the state setting records for daily high temperatures, including Santa Fe and Albuquerque. It was a toasty 97 degrees in Roswell.

Streamflows around the state showed some dramatic increases due to melting snow.

However, streamflow in the Rio Grande is low. The streamflow at Cerro near the Colorado border was just 117 cubic-feet-per second. This indicates that they are already irrigating crops in Colorado’s San Luis Valley.

Camping At Camp May Limited During The 2025 Season

Camp May will be limited to campground use 12 p.m., Friday through Saturday nights, vacating by 12 p.m., Sunday. This season will be on a first-come first-served basis due to the construction of a potable water line. The Fire Protection Project (JMFPP) plans call for the construction of a potable water pipeline up to the ski hill, as well as improved electric and fiber optic utilities along Camp May Road at Pajarito Mountain.
