East Park Pool announces 2025 summer season. The pool will be open from the weekend before Memorial Day through the weekend after Labor Day, with hours from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Whether you just want to relax or get your laps in, we’ve got something for everyone: leisure pool, 25-meter swim lanes with dedicated lap swim times, wading pool for the little ones, high dive for thrill seekers, and spacious deck area with plenty of lounge chairs and covered patios. Artists Palette: Artists Palette is the star viewpoint on the nine mile Artists Drive area of Death Valley National Park. This view features some of the most colorful rock formations within the national park. The formations are a result of volcanic activity millions of years ago and the array of colors are caused by oxidation of the various minerals found in the rocks. A scale of the scene is seen by two groups of visitors who are located near the center of the photo who were getting a closer view of the rock formations and colors in the area from a ridge line of white rock. Temporary Trail Closure: Eastern Canyon Rim Trailhead

COUNTY News:

Access to the Canyon Rim Trail from the Eastern trailhead, extending 0.5 miles, will be temporarily closed beginning Tuesday, April 15 for culvert installation.

The work is expected to be completed within one day. During the closure, trail users are encouraged to access the Canyon Rim Trail from the Western trailheads.

The County apologizes for any inconvenience and appreciates the community’s understanding as this project is completed to enhance the overall trail experience.

Second Online Survey Opens For Community Input On Ice Rink Shade Structure Project

COUNTY News:

The Public Works Capital Projects & Facilities Division invites residents to participate in a second online survey to collect feedback on a potential shade structure for the Los Alamos County Ice Rink. This feedback will help inform the decision-making process regarding improvements to the outdoor rink. The survey is open to the public from April 10-24 (14 days).

The Los Alamos Geological Society (LAGS) will meet 7-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15 at the Los Alamos Christian Church, 92 East Road.
Guest speaker LAGS Secretary Paul Bradley will give a presentation on “Mountain Climbing in Mexico”.
Bradley will regale participants with his most recent adventure climbing the highest mountains of Mexico. He will describe the trip with an emphasis on his climbs of the mountains of La Malinche, Iztaccihuatl and Orizaba.

Earth Day Hike Up Oak Canyon With Jemez Historic Site

Celebrate Earth Day outdoors with a guided hike from a Jemez Historic Site ranger 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., Saturday, April 19.

A ranger at Jemez Historic Site will lead a free guided 1.5-mile hike up Oak Canyon (a.k.a. Church Canyon) in honor of Earth Day. This is a moderate hike over rough terrain. Hikers should bring water, sturdy shoes, sunscreen and a sack lunch. Rangers will identify the species of flora and fauna encountered.

The Summit Garden Club will meet Monday, April 7, with Angela Prada, Los Alamos County Extension officer, who will speak on outdoor lighting, courtyards, patios, porches and hanging baskets.
