The snowpack in Northern New Mexico is 47-percent of normal. The weather forecast for this coming week includes some much-needed snow.

The Arctic Blast last week appears to be over. Temperatures can still  plunge well-below zero in some of our high mountain valleys.

The Moreno Valley where Eagle Nest Lake is located is a prime example. Temperatures here can reach minus-15 or even lower. Angel Fire hit a low of -30 last week. Please dress warmly.

Daily Postcard: A raven soars across the sky above Valle Grande Jan. 15 at Valles Caldera National Preserve. Valles Caldera National Preserve is home to 196 species of birds. A recent Natural Resource Condition Assessment by the National Park Service determined that ponderosa pine forests are the preferred habitat for 35% of these bird species, which means that areas like History Grove, Banco Bonito and El Cajete Trail are fantastic places to go birdwatching in the park. Spring Young Explorers Camps are returning to the New Mexico Museum of Natural History & Science (NMMNHS) this March, offering campers the chance to explore topics like New Mexico’s ancient past the science of spring, and much more.
