Healing America’s Heroes Has New Home; Winter Programs

Eddie Crain is the Founder and CEO of Healing America’s Heroes (HAH), founded in 2014 in Northern New Mexico. They started in the Chama, Tierra Amarilla area, and conducted summer programs there through 2021. They have networked with Champions of Youth Ambitions (C’YA) in Los Alamos in the past to spread the word to local Veterans about free, available services.

Little Bird Yoga Studio is celebrating its 2-year anniversary and invites the community to an open house Saturday, Jan. 11 at 2101 Trinity Drive, Suite A3 (new location).

The open house runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature free classes, healthy snacks and prizes.

Skoolie In Nebraska: A very common ‘hand crafted’ RV conversion is the ‘skoolie’, a converted and remodeled school bus. (Skoolie is the correct spelling for these RV conversions). Some skoolies are a little ‘rough’ in their construction and some are very nice and well constructed. Shown is a skoolie that we spotted back in 2017 while we were camped near Alliance, Neb. for the solar eclipse that year. A snowy overlook on Cerro La Jara Friday at Valles Caldera National Preserve. The community is invited to a Climate Science Ski Tour on Friday, Jan. 17 at Valles Caldera National Preserve. This program is open to the public; registration is not required. While skiing on groomed trails around the scenic La Jara peak, participants will learn about climate change in the Jemez mountains. Registration is open for the Astrophotography Workshop scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 11 at Valles Caldera National Preserve.

With Valles Caldera (an International Dark Sky Park) as an outdoor classroom, photographers Stan Ford and Richard Gonzales will guide program participants through the basics of astrophotography.

Learn how to adjust and optimize DSLR camera settings, select a shooting location, and, of course, shoot spectacular images of the night sky.

Heading into the New Year, New Mexico’s snowpack is suffering from the lack of precipitation and warmer-than-normal daytime temperatures. The snowpack last week was just 18 percent of normal.

There can be some strong storms later this winter. They will be needed.
