Ashley Pond Pavilion Project Gets Underway

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County Parks and Open Space Division has announced the upcoming construction of new pavilions at Ashley Pond aimed to enhance community engagement and outdoor experiences for residents and visitors alike.

The project began Monday and is expected to be completed by Nov. 22, 2024. The project will start with the removal of two existing slabs, followed by site preparation for the new ones. Once the new slabs are in place, the pavilion building process will commence.

Valles Caldera National Preserve Backcountry Vehicle Route Closed For Season

Valles Caldera National Preserve has closed the backcountry vehicle route early this year due to the recent snowstorm and the forecast for additional snow over the next few days.

Normally, the route remains open through Nov. 15. The vehicle route is slated to open again May 15, 2025, weather-permitting.

Visitors to the park can still enjoy exploring the front-country of the park, driving as far as the Cabin District on the north side of Valle Grande.

Bureau Of Land Management Farmington Field Office Plans Prescribed Pile Burns Near Cedar Hill And West Navajo

BLM News:

FARMINGTON — Beginning Nov. 1, 2024, and continuing through out the month, the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) plans to conduct prescribed pile burn operations in two locations in the Farmington Field Office.

One unit will be seven acres in size, located just south of Cedar Hill. The second unit will be 12 acres in size, near NM 511, between mile marker 17 and 20, approximately five miles north/northwest of Navajo Lake State Park.

No Open Gyms Tonight Due To Election Day Closures

COUNTY News:

There will be no Open Gym programs this evening, Nov. 5, as Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) are closed for Election Day.

Regular Open Gym schedules will resume on Wednesday, Nov. 6.

LAPS appreciates the community’s understanding and encourages everyone to participate in Election Day activities.

Los Alamos Golf Course Schedule Changes Begin Nov. 4

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Golf Course will adjust its operating hours for the winter season beginning Monday, Nov. 4, 2024. 

The golf course and golf shop will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

The golf shop will be open 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays, with all rentals required to be returned by 4:30 p.m.

These changes will remain in effect until Dec. 8, 2024, subject to course and weather conditions.

Golfers should stay updated on any changes by visiting the Los Alamos County website or contacting the golf course directly.
