Santa Fe Conservation Trust Completes Public Access Project Along The Rio Grande In La Mesilla

SFCT News:

In November 2023, the Santa Fe Conservation Trust (SFCT) accepted the donation of a conservation easement over 58 acres of land along the Rio Grande in La Mesilla.

The Aeby family generously chose to grant this conservation easement to protect their land from development and provide continued public access to the river.

The newly-protected land sits on the eastern bank of the Rio Grande in between Santa Fe and Española. The Aebys have owned the land since the 1950s, and have always invited neighbors, Scouts, birding groups, and others to hike there and enjoy the natural beauty. Located Read More

New Mexico Department Of Game And Fish Announces Off-Highway Vehicle Education And Trail Safety Grant Awards

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Game and Fish (NMDGF) Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Program has announced the 2024-2025 grant cycle awards totaling $162,700.

OHV Education and Trail Safety Grants

  • $20,000 to Region II Emergency Medical Services, Inc., to distribute newly developed public-safety media campaigns that will help reduce preventable pediatric traumatic brain injuries among young OHV operators in Doña Ana, Grant, Hidalgo, Luna and Sierra counties.
  • $14,000 to the Red Rock Motorsports Club, Inc. of Gallup to upgrade OHV park facilities and maintenance and erosion-mitigation

Streamflows are dropping across Northern New Mexico as the effects of the heavy rain over a week ago start to wear off. The water may stay a little murky. Murky water is still fish able, just remember the fish are having trouble seeing just as you are.

Flies  should have a little flash or color to them. Spinners are a good choice as the fish can feel the vibration of the spinning blade.

Los Alamos Aquatic Center Closed For Swim Meet Nov. 2

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Aquatic Center will be closed to the public Saturday, Nov. 2 to host the Mountain Club Swim Meet.

The event is 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., bringing together multiple USA Swimming teams from Los Alamos, Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque.

The closure will affect both the main pool and therapy pool, as the center dedicates its facilities to supporting youth swimming in New Mexico.

The Aquatic Center will resume regular hours Sunday, Nov. 3.

Aquatic Center Closed Oct. 26 For Pumpkin Splash Event

COUNTY News:

The Aquatic Center will be closed for public swimming Oct. 26 to host the Pumpkin Splash event. During this time, the main pool, therapy pool, and leisure lagoon will be reserved for event activities, and general public access will not be permitted.

The leisure lagoon will be the center of the Pumpkin Splash, where participants can dive in and pick their own pumpkins. Only parents or guardians accompanying a ticketed participant will be allowed entry to the pool area. Without a ticketed participant, entry will not be allowed.
