Velechovsky Top Predictor In 1st Pace Race Of 49th Season

Jan Velechovsky was the best predictor in the Atomic City Road Runners (ACRR) first pace race of its 49th season held Tuesday on the Canyon Rim Trail at 8 seconds of his predicted time. 

Other accurate predictors include David Kunsberg at 9 seconds off; Anders Medin, 13, with a 27 second differential; Mary Knaak recording a 32 second difference and Aurea Rojas at 37 seconds off.

LAHS Tennis Competes In Albuquerque Tournament

The Los Alamos High School tennis team competed April 7-8 in the Albuquerque Academy Tournament. The boys team placed second in the tournament. They had wins over Belen, Robertson and Cibola and lost to Albuquerque Academy in the finals (1-8). The girls team also competed in the Albuquerque Academy Tournament and placed eighth. Whirling disease has been detected among rainbow trout at the Rock Lake Fish Hatchery. The State Game and Fish Department will euthanize 70,000 rainbow trout to control and prevent the spread of the disease.

The resulting shortage of fish for stocking should be temporary. In the past, whirling disease has been detected at the Department’s Los Ojos Fish Hatchery and Lisboa Springs Fish Hatchery. In both cases, fish were euthanized and the hatcheries closed and cleansed of the disease.

Los Alamos High School Athletic Director Ann Stewart Serves On NIAAA National Board

Ann Stewart has been the athletic director at Los Alamos High School for more than eight years. But that is not her only role. In addition to her day job, Stewart serves as a board member of the New Mexico Athletic Directors Association (NMADA) and on the board of directors for the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association (NIAAA).
