Guns Vs. Hoses To ‘Battle’ For Special Olympics Aug. 22

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) and Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) will be playing a softball game at 6 p.m., Friday, Aug. 22, on Lovato Field at Overlook Park in White Rock.

This “Guns” (LAPD) and “Hoses” (LAFD) fun battle is being held to raise money for the Special Olympics. It has been a long tradition for LAPD and LAFD to come together to support local Special Olympic athletes.  

Police and Fire members paid $25 per person to put on this game for the public; the game is free to watch, but donations will go to support this cause.

Los Alamos Pool League 2025-2026 Season Begins Oct. 7

Do you like to play pool? The Los Alamos Pool League (LAPL) is waiting for you! 

The upcoming 2025-2026 season starts Tuesday, Oct. 7. League play takes place on Tuesday nights and the season runs from October through April.

Kutac, Spivey & Kosty Shine At Snowshoe Shuffle 5k

Ken Kutac, Whitney Spivey, and Chip Kosty (all currently or formerly of Los Alamos) completed the 40th annual Snowshoe Shuffle 5k Saturday in Creede, Colo. Second Sunday Forum: Figures On A Landscape – Running The Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run In Colorado’s San Juan Mountains

The public is invited to attend the Second Sunday Forum at the Unitarian Church of Los Alamos, starting at noon on Sunday, Aug. 10, at 1738 North Sage St.

The 30th running of the Hardrock 100 Mile Endurance Run took place  July 11-12 in the high mountains around Silverton, Colo. David Coblentz has been involved with this event for more than 20 years and has finished 13 times. 

What does it take to run 100 miles through those mountains? Perhaps of even greater interest is the motivation for coming back for more.

The Los Alamos County Fair & Rodeo got underway Friday and continues through Sunday. Events kicked off with the Summer Concert Friday night and this morning’s parade down Central Avenue.

The remainder of today and Sunday are filled with exhibits, the rodeo, and the Sheriff’s Cowboy Dinner & Dance this evening at the Posse Lodge.

Los Alamos Junior Roller Derby is kicking off its 2025 non-competitive season, inviting both new and returning skaters aged 9-18 to join the Los Alamos Cherry Bombs for a season focused on skill-building and fun.

The season officially begins Wednesday, Aug. 13, with the first practice scheduled for 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Los Alamos Ice Rink.

Registration Opens For Knights Of Columbus 25th Annual Dcn. Don Lucero Golf Tournament At Black Mesa Golf Club

The 25th Annual Knights of Columbus Deacon Don Lucero Golf Tournament will be held Monday, Aug. 18 at Black Mesa Golf Club.

This is a charity tournament that supports scholarships for high school seniors in Northern New Mexico.

The annual tournament raised more than $12,000 for scholarships last year thanks to loyal sponsors and players.
