Hilltoppers Swimming Intrasquad Meet Results

The Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers swimming team kicked off its 2015-16 season with a Green versus Gold intrasquad meet Saturday, Nov. 7, at Larry R Walkup Aquatic Center.
 
The Gold team won the combined team scores by a 364-317 count over the Green team. Gold squeaked out a 187-184 win on the girls’ side, and won the boys’ contest by a wider 177-133 margin.
 
Leading the Gold for the girls was freshman Jillian Bennett who captured the 100 free (1:04.32) and 100 breast (1:16.96).

Los Alamos Native Alex Kirk Featured In Italy’s SportsWeek Magazine

Los Alamos native Alex Kirk is featured in the latest edition of Italy’s SportWeek magazine.

The Los Alamos High School graduate and former UNM Lobo has been a court standout and crowd favorite since joining the Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia in Pistoia, Italy in September. He was named the MVP in the season opening game. 

Giorgio Tesi Group Pistoia is a professional basketball team in Italy’s top league and Kirk said at the time of joining the team that he believes his shot to play in the NBA is only going to get better following this experience.

The Los Alamos Mountaineers meeting will begin promptly at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov.18, a little earlier than usual, at Fuller Lodge. 

The group needs to handle its election and regular announcements/business meeting before a special program by a world class outdoorsman. The Los Alamos MIddle School Hawks Wrestling Team took 1st place at the Pecos tournament over the weekend.

The Hawks team had seven wrestlers take first place, and one third place. 

The first place wrestlers were: Izzy Maestas, Antonio Vigil, Devin Atencio, Damian Gonzales, Elijah Martinez, JD Carson and Zach Moquino. Third place winner was Xavier Massara.

Vosburgh made a speech thanking all of the many volunteers that made the refurbishment of the facility possible and all of the members of his team that spent long hours moving and setting up equipment including a new peg-board climbing wall, beams, and parallel bars.

Hilltopper Girls Soccer Team Advances To State Championship Games!

The #5 Los Alamos Hilltoppers Girls Varsity Soccer team won today’s State Semifinal game against #1 seed Farmington by a score of 3-1.

 
Backstopped by the strong goaltending of Anna Lemke and goals from Emily Hopkins and Cece Ahlers our girls went into halftime leading 2-1. Another goal by Ahlers in the waning minutes of the game sealed the victory for the Lady Hilltoppers.

Up next is a matchup Saturday against # 3 seed St.Pius X in the State Championship. This game will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday on Field 1 at the Albuquerque  Public Schools Soccer Complex.

It was a scoreless draw after regulation time and two overtime periods and ended in a pk shoot out with the Toppers making all five of their penalty kicks and Topper Keeper Seth Hailey coming up big to stop a Roswell penalty shot. The Los Alamos Xtreme Division Three (D3) football team won the Northern New Mexico Children’s Football League championship game Saturday, Oct. 31.
