Los Alamos Aquatomics (LAA) Swim Team, celebrated the culmination of a highly successful long course swim season and the beginnings of a promising new short course season with a team picnic Sunday at Fuller Lodge.

Over 30 Los Alamos Aquatomics swimmers competed at the State Championships in July, with six swimmers bringing home State Champion Titles:

Fall Leaves Best In Los Alamos At End Of Jemez Mountain Trail

With the official start of fall, the leaves in and leading to Los Alamos are slowly beginning to change, with leaf peeping views expected to peak in early October.

Several upcoming events will give travelers an excuse to take the Jemez Mountain Trail National Scenic Byway to this cultural and recreationally rich area, including:

  • “Jemez Mountains Elk Festival” at Valles Caldera National Preserve Sept. 26;
  • “Opera on the Rocks” at Bandelier National Park Sept. 26; and
  • “Pajarito Trail Fest” in Los Alamos Oct. 17.

LAHS Varsity Volleyball: Toppers 3 – Santa Fe 0

SPORTS News:
 
The Toppers varsity volleyball team improved their record to 5-2 on Wednesday night with a 3-0 non-district win over the visiting Santa Fe Demons (4-2). 
 
Los Alamos won the first game 25-17 with Briana Montano taking over serve with the Demons leading 17-16. On serve Monatano led the Toppers for 8 consecutive points winning 25-17.

Strong serving by Sierra Foley and Ashlynn Trujillo powered the Toppers to a 25-20 win in set number two. The third set was a real nail-biter.  The score was tied at 18 all when Montano again got the serve.

Bob Weeks Has Perfect Prediction In Pace Race

Bob Weeks has a perfect prediction of 14:00 minutes on the 1 mile course in the weekly pace race held on the Powerline Trail off N.M. 4 in the White Rock area. 
 
Sue Elkins was right behind him with a 3 second differential. Other top predictors were Mark Bjorklund at 4 seconds off, Ted Romero 6 seconds from perfection and Laura Woodroffe recording a 12 second difference.
 
Anders Medin, 5, was tops on the 1 mile course with a time of 13:27 and his grandmother Aurea Rojas the fastest female at 15:42.

Hilltoppers Girls Soccer Loses To Academy 2-0

SPORTS News:

The 7th ranked Los Alamos Hilltoppers girls soccer team lost Tuesday’s home non-conference game against rival school, 6th ranked Albuquerque Academy, by a score of 2-0.

Academy’s leading scorer, Eliza Mariner, scored in the 14th minute with a shot just inside the far post. Co-captain Anika Gorham was credited with the assist. The Chargers got their second goal in the 55th minute when Maren Baur converted a corner kick by Lindsey Herman.

The Los Alamos Middle School boys and girls cross country teams each won 1st place at Saturday’s ATC Everybody Invite.  

With 107 total runners in the girls race, the Hawks placed their top 5 runners in the top 11 overall, for a total team score of 44 points and a first place finish. The Hawks were led by Hannah Gartz (6th), Neha Sadasivan (8th), Than Povi Martinez (9th), Lidia Appell (10th) and Amaya Coblentz

LAHS Varsity Volleyball Escapes With 15-13 Victory

SPORTS News:

This evening the Topper volleyball team won the first set (25-19) against the St. Michael’s Lady Horsemen, but then they proceeded to dig a deep hole for themselves by losing the next two sets 25-15 and 25-17. 

The fourth set was a real nail biter, but with their backs to the wall the Toppers hung on and forced a fifth set tie breaker with a 25-21 win.
