In Tuesday’s final Atomic City Road Runners Club Pace Race of the 2015 season, Laura Woodroffe had a 5 second differential from her predicted time and the best time for a female finisher in the 3 mile distance with a time of 20:55 on the Canyon Rim Trail.

Girls Jr Varsity and Varsity Soccer Teams Kick For The Cure Campaign Continues This Weekend

The Los Alamos High School Girls Jr Varsity and Varsity Soccer teams are raising money and awareness for breast cancer through “Kick for the Cure” events.

The teams raised more than $500 last week at home games against Highlands and La Cueva.

They will be collecting money again Saturday:

  • 11 a.m. Soccer: Boys Varsity vs. Capital @ Los Alamos High School – Sullivan Field
  • 1 p.m. Soccer: Girls Varsity vs. Capital @ Los Alamos High School – Sullivan

The Los Alamos High School Girls Golf team successfully weathered the storm in Grants Monday to finish in first place with a team qualifying “leg” for the state tournament in May. 

This is the team’s second of three legs needed to qualify for the state tournament.

First off, congratulations to our First Meet swimmers Sofia Lopez and Aihnoa Briano-Medina.
 
They both did really well and placed in the top 8 in their age groups in at least one event. Congratulations also to Natalie Crawford, who participated in her second meet, and swam really well.

Girls Soccer Overpowers Highland, 6-0

Friday evening the Hilltopper Girls varsity soccer team played host to the Highland Hornets and came away with a 6-0 victory. The Hornets closely marked the Hopkins sisters, Emily and Katie, leaving junior Abby Schmalz open to do her magic. Abby assisted on goals by Katie Hopkins and on two of sophomore, Sienna Ahlers’s, three goals.

The Los Alamos High School Girls Golf team played the challenging Ladera Golf Course Sept. 29 in Albuquerque for their second tournament of the Fall season.
 
The golf course doesn’t look challenging but many of the fairways are narrow, the rough can be hairy, and balls off-fairway end up in desert-like conditions. The girls were shooting for individual state qualifying scores of 97 and a team state qualifying

Hilltopper Volleyball Juggernaut Powers Past #10-ranked Academy Chargers, 3-0

Volleyball is a momentum sport and Thursday evening the Topper volleyball team continued to roll following up on Wednesday’s 3-0 defeat of district foe Capital with a victory over arch-rival the Academy Chargers at Griffith gym.

The game scores were 25-20, 25-21 and 25-14. 

The Toppers scored 20 points off of Sierra Foley’s serve. Foley also had 16 kills. Brianna Montano led with 18 kills. The kills resulted for excellent sets by co-captain

Hilltopper Fundraiser ‘Kick For The Cure’ Oct. 2

The community is encouraged to come out and support the JV and Varsity girls Hilltoppers Friday as they take on the Highland Hornets and raise money for Kick For The Cure!
 

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and the money collected at the games goes to support the Los Alamos Council on Cancer – a local organization that helps residents with their fight against cancer.

The community is encouraged to come out and support the Toppers and give generously to this important cause.
