As summer begins to wind down, the Los Alamos County Recreation Department is gearing up once again for the 41st Annual Triathlon to be held Saturday, Aug. 15, as well as the 22nd Annual Kids’ Triathlon taking place Sunday, Aug. 16.
 
These amazing events rely heavily on the generous support of community volunteers to guide and support racers along the course.

Woodroffe Is Best Predictor In Tuesday’s Pace Race

Laura Woodroffe was the best predictor in Tuesday’s weekly Atomic City Road Runners Pace Race with a 3 second differential from her predicted time. 
 
The Lawrence E. Wangen Memorial Race was held on the trails behind the Aquatic Center and included a 1 mile paved course and 1 mile and 5K trail distances. Other top predictors included Zach Medin at 8 seconds off, Joan Williams recording a 12 second difference, and Bob Weeks at 15 seconds off his prediction.

Los Alamos High School Girls Soccer Tryouts begin Aug. 10

All girls interested in trying out for the high school teams need to report to the LAHS auxiliary gymnasium at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10. This is a mandatory meeting for anyone planning on trying out for the Girls Soccer Team. Also, anyone planning to tryout must have their physical completed and have registered on Family ID.

Tryouts will begin immediately following the meeting so bring running shoes.

Lockridge Of Los Alamos 2015 Hall Of Honor Inductee

The New Mexico High School Coaches Association has announced that Allan Lockridge, a long time Los Alamos resident and coach at Pojoaque High School, is a 2015 Hall

Lockridge was born in 1943. His father was a military man thus Allan and his family moved frequently. Prior to moving to Albuquerque in 1949, Lockridge lived in Germany for two and half years following WWII.

When his family moved to Albuquerque in 1949, they settled in the South Valley. After graduating from Rio Grande High School in 1961, Lockridge enrolled and attended the University of New Mexico Read More

Final Splash n Dash Aug. 5

SPORTS News:

The final Splash n Dash this year is Wednesday, Aug 5. 

There will be swag there for anyone who participated or helped in three or more of this year’s Splash n Dash. Registration will open at 6:30 p.m. and the first swimmer pushed off at 7 p.m. 

There will be a long course (400M swim + 5K run), short course (200M swim + 3K run) and a youth course (swim + run). Athletes get to choose their own starting position at registration.

Local Senior Olympians Compete In National Games

Local Senior Olympians Susan Krohn and Inez Ross just returned from the National Senior Olympic Games in Minneapolis, Minn.

Krohn competed in three events in swimming (50 free, 50 back and 100 backstroke). Ross competed in the 5K Road Race and won a Silver Medal with a time of 51:51.

Nationals are held in a different city once every two years. Athletes qualify locally and then go to the New Mexico State Games Read More

The Los Alamos 10-11 All-Stars Girls Softball Team beat Deming Monday evening in Santa Fe to win the title of State Champions.

The team is coached by Donny Ellsworth, Michelle Harris and Lori Norman.

LAHS Announces 2015 Hall of Fame Class Inductees

LAHS News:

During Los Alamos High School Homecoming weekend 2015, the Athletic Department will induct its second Hall of Fame Class. 

Inductees will be invited to participate in the Homecoming Parade Friday, Sept. 11 and will be introduced at the football game. A banquet in their honor is set for noon Saturday, Sept. 12 at LAHS.

This event is open to the public. Tickets are for $25 and will be available at the LAHS Athletic Office.
