Second Session Of Basketball Camp Starts Monday

SPORTS News:

If you are passionate about becoming a better basketball player, then you should attend Skills Camp!

The camp’s mission is to develop fundamental basketball skills. Campers will learn ball handling, triple threat, post moves, rebounding, court spacing, passing, defensive keys, and team offense/defense.

Camp will run about 1.5 hours. Participants should arrive 10 minutes before start time. Bring gym shoes, clothing appropriate for basketball, a basketball and a water bottle.  Read More

CHICAGO — In its 30th year of honoring the nation’s best high school athletes, The Gatorade Company, in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports, announced Friday that Jackson Morris is its 2014-15 Gatorade New Mexico Boys Track & Field Athlete of the Year.

Morris is the son of Los Alamos athletes Mark Morris (88) and Angie Morris (89). He attends Albuquerque Academy in Albuquerque and is a rising junior. Triatomics Splash n’ Dash Starts Wednesday June 24

Splash n’ Dash begins Wednesday, June 24. This year there is a long course (400M swim and 5K run), and a short course (200M swim and 3K run). Teams and floatation devices are permitted in both. 
Registration for each event opens at 6:20 p.m. at the back of the Aquatic Center. Instructions at 6:50 p.m. and the first swimmer pushes off at 7 p.m.

LAJGA Holds Fundraiser At Golf Course June 21

The Los Alamos High School Golf Team (LAJGA) will hold a Club Swap fundraiser 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Sunday June 21, at the new golf course community building, to benefit the Los Alamos Junior Golf Association. 
 
Coach Andy Ainsworth loves his kids, their folks and especially Sheldon and Carrie Apgar who are donating a lot of time to benefit the project. The LAJGA volunteer directors are described as, “Great folks,” by Ainsworth.

Duane Marr Top Predictor In This Week’s Pace Race

Thirty-five runners and walkers enjoyed excellent weather for Tuesday night’s Atomic City Road Runner’s weekly Pace Race that started and ended at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink in Los Alamos Canyon. 

Duane Marr had an adjusted error of three seconds on the one mile course while Ryan Smeltzer had an error of 11 seconds on the three mile course. The only other prediction error under 25 seconds was Roy Cope’s 21 seconds.

Ed Griggs Memorial Golf Classic Rescheduled To July 10

The Y’s Ed Griggs Memorial Golf classic has been rescheduled for Friday, July 10, with player check-in at 8 a.m., and shotgun start at 9 a.m. at the Los Alamos Golf Course.

This day and time was selected in the hope of avoiding monsoon weather. The dinner and prize awards are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the  Cottonwoods on the Green restaurant at the golf course.
