Members of the Los Alamos Police Department and Los Alamos Fire Department squared off Friday morning at Overlook Park for their annual Fourth of July softball game.

Volunteers Needed for YMCA Firecracker Run July 4!

YMCA News:

Patriotic, fun-loving volunteers are needed to assist at The Family YMCA’s 5K Firecracker community race Friday, July 4. Interested individuals may call the Y at 505.662.3100, or email jsmith@laymca.org to sign up for a slot. Helpers will be given a t-shirt of Uncle Sam running.

Helpers are needed for these positions (volunteers should show up at the YMCA 10 minutes before scheduled time for briefing on assignment):

  • Two helpers to run games of skill (target throw, ring toss) 7:30-10:30 a.m.
  • 20 race guides to hold traffic at driveways 7:30-10 a.m.
  • Four helpers to put games away 10:30-11

YMCA 5k ‘Firecracker’ Fun Run Friday

YMCA News:

The Los Alamos Family YMCA will host its annual Firecracker 5K Fun Run from 8-10 a.m., July 4, at the YMCA, 1450 Iris St.

Prizes will go to the top runner in each category. All participants get a t-shirt and are eligible for many great door prizes from local businesses.

Run, jog, or walk the race, then stick around for free food, games and at 11 a.m., the children’s parade.

The annual YMCA Firecracker 5K Fun Run is made possible by generous sponsorships from Los Alamos National Bank and Los Alamos Medical Center.

The 3rd annual Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) “Drive for Matches” Golf Tournament is Saturday, July 26 at the Los Alamos Municipal Golf Course for the kids of Northern New Mexico.

The tournament is still in need of more golfers for the July 26th event. Fees are:

  • Non-LAGC Golfers – $100 (Includes driving range, cart, golf, dinner and prizes)

County All-Stars Win First Game of District Play

Competing in seriously hot temperatures, the Los Alamos County All-Stars minors 9-10’s won the first game of district play Sunday against Pojoaque, 19-2.

The team will play again at 6 p.m. this Wednesday at Bun Ryan Field against Espanola. Should they win, they will advance to state.
