Alex Kirk Visits YMCA Youth Basketball Clinic Tuesday

The YMCA Youth Basketball Skills Clinic runs this week from Monday June 30 through Thursday July 3 in the Y Gymnasium on Iris Street.

Former Lobos basketball star Alex Kirk of Los Alamos will be at the Basketball Camp Tuesday July 1 at 10:30 a.m. and again at 4 p.m. for photos and signatures and to chat with players and parents about basketball.

YMCA Youth Basketball Skills Clinic hours:

  • 9-10:30 a.m. for K – 2nd grade
  • 2-4 p.m. for 3rd – 4th grade

‘EnduroFest’ Serves Up Bike Races & Rock-n-Roll

Organizers of the newest cyclist-centric festival to hit Los Alamos – “Rock-n-Roll EnduroFest” – are hoping the event will gain speed among festival goers with many family-friendly activities for cyclists and non-cyclists alike, including guided rides, kids races, live music, microbreweries and bike races.

The New Mexico Lady Silver Bullets took first place in the LT Invitational Basketball Tournament in Albuquerque last weekend.

The sixth grade team won the tournament after playing hard all weekend and winning all four games played.

Tuesday night’s Atomic City Roadrunners Pace Race was held in the Quemazon and Pipeline Road areas on steep 1, 3 and 3.2 mile courses. With all 33 predicted and actual runner times adjusted to the 3.2 mile course, the best predictions were by Mariela Saenz (13 sec.), Meera Nadige (22 sec.), Linda Vance (23 sec.) and Katie Gattiker (41 sec.).

Three players from the Los Alamos Hockey Association recently participated in the Rocky Mountain District Player Development Camp held May 7-11 at the Olympic Oval in Salt Lake City, Utah.

 

Margaret Doebling, Emma Martens, and Evan Oro were among those chosen from each age group in New Mexico to represent the state at the camp.

The camp provides boys and girls ages 14 thru 17 from around the Rocky Mountain District an opportunity to train with high level coaches. The District encompasses seven states:

It is with great pleasure that the National High School Athletic Coaches Association recognizes Kathy and Rob Hipwood of Los Alamos High School as the National Coach of the Year in the sport of Girls’ Cross Country.

Eight finalists from across the nation were honored during the National Coach of the Year Awards Banquet at the NHSACA’s national convention held June 18 at the Snow King Resort in Jackson Hole, Wyo.
