Splash ‘n Dash #1 Results Announced

The annual Splash ‘n Dash series began June 26 as a training event for the Los Alamos Triathlon, which occurs Aug. 17.

Splash ‘n Dash will occur every other Wednesday leading up to the Los Alamos Triathlon.

New this year is an even shorter course for the youngest athletes – a 100-yard swim followed by a quick run along the Canyon Road sidewalk.

Los Alamos Native Alex Kirk Tapped For 2013 USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team

After five days of training camp that began with 26 players on June 24 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball today named the official, 12-man roster for the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s World University Games Team.

Training camp will continue in Colorado Springs through June 30, and the team departs for Russia July 1.

Local Swimmers Do Well at Florida Meet

Charger swimmers returned to Los Alamos Wednesday, after successfully competing in the 2013 Gulf Coast Swim Team Invitational Meet in Fort Myers, Fla.

With 740 swimmers competing, it was not a surprise to see World Championship qualifying cut times being made in the top heats. Los Alamos Charger swimmers did surprisingly well with several of the kids earning places in the top-16 finals heats (see results below).

During the week of June 17 LAHS woman’s golf team senior co-captain, Emma Haines and freshman, Jennifer Necker, attended the US Air Force Academy Golf Camp.

Peter Brewer Tapped for Rocky Mountain Football University

Los Alamos student athlete Peter Brewer earned a Top Gun invitation as a linebacker for the Rocky Mountain Region of Football University for the second consecutive year.

Football University is a nonprofit organization and an invitation-only camp. This year, Brewer was named the Top Gun LB by Quentin Coryatt for the Rocky Mountain Region.

‘Longest Day with the Longest Play’ Underway at Los Alamos Golf Course

Today is the “Longest Day with the Longest Play” at the Los Alamos Golf Course.

PGA pro Donnie Torres will once again play golf most of the day to raise money for PGA youth golf programs. But this year, Torres has invited 12-year-old Sean Rau to play with him. Rau, who will be an eighth grader at Los Alamos Middle School in the fall, “loves golf and loves helping others,” his mom Karen Rau said.
