Local Youth Advance to State in Free Throw Contest

The Knights of Columbus District Free Throw Contest was held Sunday, Feb. 24 at Griffith Gymnasium in Los Alamos.

Three local champions won their division and will be advancing to the state championships, which will be held at Grants High School March 23. 

Eli Iramk-Bent was the 10-year-old boy champion. He shot 23 out of 25 free throws, beating his competitor by 1 shot.

Roadrunners Set to Launch 40th Season

ACRRC News:

The Atomic City Road Runners Club is set to begin its 40th season next month.

The big event takes off at 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 2 at the trailhead parking lot of Canyon Rim Trail, which is off East Road (N.M. 502.)

The Club will continue to meet every Tuesday through early October for one and three mile runs/walks at various courses throughout Los Alamos County.

YMCA Opens Second Facility March 11

YMCA News:

In support of expanding health opportunities to the community, The Family YMCA will celebrate the grand opening of a second facility, the YMCA Express, 140 Central Park Square, March 11.

Throughout the day, community members are invited to try classes 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at no charge. The day includes equipment and new class demonstrations, an open-house lunch from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and at 12:30 p.m., a ribbon cutting.

Los Alamos Derby Dames will host a meeting to discuss collaborating with parents and interested skaters to start a Junior Roller Derby League in Los Alamos.
 
The Dames are welcoming girls age 12-17 interested in skating or support and their parents to Film Festival at 6:30 pm. Thursday, March 7 to discuss this project.

Pony Club Collecting Children’s Items

The  Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team bested Capital in District Tournament 57-33 Tuesday.

After Tuesdsay’s victory, the  Los Alamos Hilltopper girls basketball team will face the Española Valley Sundevils in the semifinal round of the District 2-4A tournament tonight.

The Sundevils and the Hilltoppers have each won one of two previous matchups.

The winner of tonight’s game in Española, will advance to the district tournament championship game.

Los Alamos Hilltoppers 2013 State Meet Results:

Hilltopper Sarah Lott brought home a bronze medal over the weekend from the 2013 State Swimming and Diving Championships.

Lott finished in third place in the 200-yard freestyle. Her time of 1:55.80 was her personal best and just 0:00.08 away from setting a new Los Alamos High School school record.

Lott also medaled in the 500-yard freestyle, coming in fourth place with a time of 5:16.48.
