Los Alamos Aquatomics Meet Honors Nick Nogar

Los Alamos Aquatomics hosted the Nick Nogar Memorial Invitation Swim Meet June 23-24, at the Walkup Aquatic Center.

Swimmers from as far away as Texas were among the 175 swimmers from 11 teams who participated in the event.

This meet was dedicated to Nick Nogar, a former Los Alamos High School, University of New Mexico and U.S. Masters swimmer.

Viloria has Perfect Prediction on July 3 Pace Race

Isolina Viloria had a perfect prediction and also was the first female finisher in the 1 mile trail run on the trail behind the Aquatic Center.
 
Duane Marr had a six second differential and Anya Gonzales was 99 seconds off.
 
On the 1 mile paved course, Zachary Medin came in first with a time of 7:00. Eight-year-old Erik Leonard was first on the 1 mile trail course in 10:34. 
 
Jackie Marr was the first female on the 1 mile paved course with a time of 15:25.

County Hosts Ponderosa Putt-Putt Tournament

The Los Alamos County Recreation Division will present the Ponderosa Putt-Putt Tournament at 6 p.m., Wednesday July 25 at East Park.

Putt-Putt registration forms are available at the Aquatic Center and must be returned to the Aquatic Center.

The deadline for pre-registration is 5 p.m., Monday July 23.

Registration is limited to 20 participants per age category.

Age categories are separated as follows:

  • 5-7 Years
  • 8-11 Years
  • 12+ Years

Get Ready for 38th Annual Los Alamos Triathlon

Join the Los Alamos Recreation Division Saturday, Aug. 18, as it presents the 38th Annual Los Alamos Triathlon in all its glory.

The 20k bike ride is back to its old course of challenging climbs and beautiful scenery; then jump in the pool (feet first) for a 400 meter swim; and conclude with the 5K run from the Aquatic Center to the First Baptist Church on Diamond Drive and then turning around and running back to the Aquatic Center.

The Los Alamos triathlon was organized by Bill and Maureen Hudson in 1975 and is the longest running continuous triathlon in the country.

Local Golf Pro Plays Around the Clock for Charity

Torres Attempts Longest Day with Longest Play

He did it 20 years ago and tomorrow will attempt it again – Rotarian Donnie Torres, the PGA golf pro at Los Alamos Golf Course is starting his day by teeing off at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, June 21 and is going to play all day straight through until sunset.

This is a fund-raiser and one half of the pledges made will benefit the PGA’s golfing programs for youth; the other half will be donated to the Rotary Club of Los Alamos.

Torres said he has 100 pledges totaling $4,000 (if he makes it through) and is hoping people will donate even after the day is over.

Roy Cope Makes Perfect Prediction

Roy Cope makes perfect prediction on Tuesday’s pace race on North Mesa on the one mile course.

Runners had the choice to run either one mile or a true 5K, but either way their error was adjusted to a uniform error for a three mile course.

The next best prediction was made by Alexander Romero with a distance adjusted 21 second error.

11-year-old Jacob Thompson was fastest male on the one mile course with a time of 9:56. Fastest female was Ann Nichols with a time of 17:25.
