Catch Of The Week: Chamber Of Commerce Phishing Scams

Local businesses rely on their local, non-profit chambers of commerce to help them grow and build a thriving community. Unfortunately, this makes local chambers of commerce targets for scammers! Recently, I’ve seen reports coming out of other areas that their local chamber of commerce has been impersonated by scammers. It seems to be mostly back east so far, but it is good to be aware as it will likely make its way out here.

Scam Alert: NMDOT Does Not Issue Traffic Tickets

NMDOT News:

SANTA FE – The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) does not send text messages or make phone calls to collect fees or payments for traffic tickets.

Anyone receiving a message about an outstanding ticket is urged to not provide any payment information.

What to do:

  • Do not click on any links in suspicious text messages;
  • Do not answer unsolicited phone calls regarding traffic tickets or fees; and 
  • Block the sender or hang up and block the caller.
