School was out for the summer but these local educators were not slowing down one bit! In mid-June Nicole McGrane and Audrey Juliani (Barranca teachers), Petra Pirc McDowell (former LAPS physical therapist), Sharon Allen (retired teacher), Nicole’s daughter Kaitlyn (LAHS sophomore), and Petra’s daughter Hailey (LAMS 8 th grader) headed to far western Kenya to some small, remote islands off the shores of Lake Victoria, near the Uganda border.

Major Portion Of NM 4 / NM 502 Road Construction Wrapping Up, Paint Crews Plan Finishing Touches

NNSA/DOE News:

Road construction of N.M. 502 eastbound is just about complete, ending lane closures on the eastbound side for the duration of the road reconstruction project.

Crews will be adding a second layer of striping along eastbound N.M. 502 one day this week, and one day next week, during off-peak traffic hours.

On the westbound side, crews have completed the lower full-depth reconstruction and are at the mill and fill stage of the project. There will be alternating lane closures on the west side, but commuters will have two lanes open for the morning drive to Los Alamos. Work on the westbound Read More

RTD Closed For Labor Day Holiday Monday Sept. 3

NCRTD News:

The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) has announced that the RTD “Blue Buses,” with the exception of the RTD 255 Mountain Trail route to the Santa Fe National Forest, will not be in service Monday, Sept. 3, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

The RTD 255 Mountain Trail Route will be operating its weekday schedule, providing two roundtrips for the day.

Regularly scheduled bus service throughout north central New Mexico will resume Tuesday, Sept. 4. Read More

State Police Checkpoints And Saturation Patrols In Counties Across State In September

New Mexico State Police will be conducting sobriety checkpoints; saturation patrols; and registration, insurance and driver’s license checkpoints in all New Mexico counties during the month of September 2018.
 
We are bringing awareness to these events to reduce alcohol related fatalities through continued media attention and intensive advertising. These checkpoints are helping to change society’s attitude about drinking and driving.

Update: NM 502 & NM 4 Road Closures Saturday!

Westbound N.M. 502 (Main Hill Road) leading to Los Alamos will be closed to all traffic Saturday, Aug. 25 (see map in purple). The hairpin ramp connecting N.M. 4 to westbound N.M. 502 will also be closed (see map in blue).

These traffic control measures are to allow completion of mill and inlay work on an approximately one mile stretch of N.M. 502. Signage will be posted to detour traffic around the closures via East Jemez Road (truck route).

As previously announced, westbound N.M. 502 traffic (see map in red) will be narrowed to one lane beginning today, Aug. 23. Read More

US 84/285 Pavement Preservation Work – Buffalo Thunder Northbound Lane Closures Begin Today

NMDOT News:

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) will begin pavement preservation work today on US 84/285 at milepost 178.00 (Buffalo Thunder) to 182.00 (CR 109 just north of Nambe).

The contractor will be milling the existing asphalt and then follow with a heater scarification overlay process.

TLC Plumbing & Utility: Trenchless Sewer Line Replacement Work In White Rock Aug. 28-29

TLC PLUMBING & UTILITY News:

TLC Plumbing & Utility will be doing a trenchless sewer line replacement Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug. 28-29 at 558 Todd Loop S., in White Rock.

Residents encounter road closure in front of the 558 Todd Loop S., home during the length of the project. TLC will maintain access and allow emergency vehicles through as needed.

Comments Sought On State STIP

NMDOT News:
 
SANTA FE The public is invited to comment on the New Mexico Department of Transportation’s 4th Amendment to the State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP).  The program will serve as a four-year plan for the state’s federal aid highway program.
 
The STIP contains proposed road and bridge projects and is required under the federal legislation. Projects on the list are on federal and state highways (roads with I, U.S. or NM designations).
 
The NMDOT has posted the 2018-2023 STIP amendment on the internet asking for public comment until Sept. 15, 2018.
