NCRTD ‘Blue Bus’ Announces Sweeping Service Reductions Due To Shortage Of Available Commercial Drivers

Effective Jan. 6, 2024, The North Central Regional Transit District (NCRTD) Blue Bus will temporarily reduce portions of its fixed route bus schedules across North Central New Mexico, including Española, Taos and Chimayo and will temporarily supplement the reduced bus service schedule with a new app-based on-demand rideshare service known as “My Blue”.

NCRTD will also temporarily suspend service to the Jicarilla Apache Nation. The sweeping changes are due to a shortage of available drivers.

USDOT Announces $59 Million Grant To New Mexico To Help Meet Rural Transportation And Mobility Needs

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) has announced that the Biden-Harris Administration has awarded a $59,800,000 grant in San Juan County, New Mexico from the Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program (Rural) for the US 64 Corridor Improvements (ITHMAS) project.

This is one of 18 projects receiving a total of $645.3 million to help communities around the United States complete transportation projects that will increase mobility, improve safety, and generate regional economic growth in rural areas.

Atomic City Transit Route 2M Suspended Until 11:25 AM

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County Atomic City Transit (ACT) will suspend operations of Route 2M until 11:25 a.m. today, Dec. 27, due to staffing shortages. Please use Route 2T during this time.

ACT apologizes for the inconvenience to passengers. 2M will resume service at 11:25 a.m. today.

Atomic City Transit regular scheduled bus service and para transit services will not operate Monday, Jan. 1 in observance of the New Years Day holiday.

Regular services will resume Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024.

Route 3 and Peak Service on Routes 1 and 6 (AM) will remain suspended until further notice due to staffing shortage.

When shoveling snow, place shoveled snow on the backside of the sidewalk. Direct the chutes of snow blowers and shovel snow toward lawn areas whenever possible, rather than toward the street. This will provide lawns with addi­tional moisture and prevent that same snow from being plowed back onto surfaces previously cleared by residents.

Update: The Truck Route has re-opened to traffic.

LAPD Traffic Alert:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) reports black ice and multiple accidents near Mile Marker 8  on the Truck Route.

The truck route is down to one lane westbound.
