The Friends of Los Alamos County Libraries are hosting a bag sale Saturday and Sunday to benefit the organization’s numerous programs.
On Saturday, the sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Mesa Public Library and the sale will continue from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the library. Bags can be purchased for $5 each and people can pick up as many books as will fit in the bags. The proceeds from the sale will go towards library programs including summer reading, author visits, movies, children’s story time and program and much more. With the passing of Nona Bowman on May 18, Los Alamos lost a true public servant.
Nona and I had been friends since she and her husband Charlie Bowman came to Los Alamos in August of 1982. Six months later, I had begun my first term on the Los Alamos County Council when Nona called me to express a desire to help improve the appearance of the downtown. One of my campaign promises was to beautify Los Alamos, especially for the county to take better care of Fuller Lodge.

CHICAGO – Physicians gathered at the Annual Meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA) today voted for Barbara L. McAneny, M.D., an oncologist from Albuquerque, N.M., as the new president-elect of the nation’s premier physician organization.
