Road Closure Sunday for 19th Annual Kids Triathlon

LOS ALAMOS RECREATION DIVISION News:

The Los Alamos Recreation Division will be holding the 19th annual Kids Triathlon Sunday, Aug. 19.

The following road closure will be in effect: Canyon Road will be closed from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 15th Street to Central Avenue.

Canyon Road will reopen at 3 p.m. from 15th Street to Central Avenue.

Tree Trimming to Prevent Power Outages Starts Monday

Preventing power outages and unsafe fire hazards by trimming trees too close to power lines is a safety and reliability priority for the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU).

The DPU has engaged Allied Tree Service to trim around the overhead power lines in White Rock and Los Alamos starting Monday.

The tree trimming project is anticipated to last two to three months with work beginning at the Ski Hill, then moving to White Rock, then the Los Alamos townsite.

School Board Work Session Scheduled for Aug. 23

LOS ALAMOS SCHOOL BOARD News:

The Los Alamos School Board has scheduled a work session for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Los Alamos High School Speech Theater.

The agenda items include an update on Title IX, a presentation on Human Resources and a report on test results data by each school site.

Fire Stations Compete in New Green Team Energy Challenge

LOS ALAMOS COUNTY News:

Los Alamos County’s employee-based “Green Team” has launched a competition between Fire Stations 3, 4 and 6 to challenge them to reduce their electricity and natural gas usage for the next six months — from August through January 2013.

Green Team members launched the competition earlier this month after meeting with firefighters and brainstorming ways that they could save energy.

Ideas included such simple steps as turning off lights when leaving a room or better managing AC/heating usage.

The Los Alamos Creative District on Sunday, Aug 26 will hold its second Art Market. 

The location is the outdoor space in front of The Hive, 134 N.M. 4 in White Rock.

The market will run 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and is free to the public.
