Basic Bike Maintenance Classes Aug. 17-20

Scott Beguin will teach classes on drivetrain function and first aid fixes, 2 p.m. Aug. 17 and 6 p.m. Aug. 20.

During the two-hour class, students learn practical mechanics and how to do on-the-road and trail-side first aid repairs to the drivetrain.

Topics to be covered:

  • Installation of Front and Rear derailleurs, chainrings, cassettes, chains, shifters, cables and housing.
  • Routine maintenance and repair of drivetrains and components.
  • Trail- and Road-side troubleshooting to get you back on the ride.

‘NOT Back-to-School’ Breakfast Aug. 14

COMMUNITY News:

For many years, retired Los Alamos Public Schools employees have looked forward to the famous NOT Back-to-School breakfast.

It is held annually on the first day that students and teachers go back to school. Retirees from all over the USA make a special effort to attend the event to share memories and talk with friends.

This year the breakfast is 9:30 a.m. to noon Thursday, Aug. 14 in Kelly Hall at Trinity on the Hill. There is a nominal charge of $10  for the breakfast, and for those who can, please add a donation for the use of the church.

Valencia County Elementary Schools Guaranteed Meal Funding For Underprivileged Kids

Governor Announces Three New Mexico Schools Awarded New Fitness Centers

Gov. Susana Martinez and National Foundation for Governors’ Fitness Councils (NFGFC) Chairman Jake Steinfeld announced Thursday that three New Mexico schools will receive new fitness centers through a partnership between the State of New Mexico and NFGFC.

  • Jemez Valley Elementary and Middle Schools in Jemez Pueblo;
  • East San Jose Elementary School in Albuquerque; and

School Grades Show New Mexico on Path to Improvement

There are several take-aways from the latest round of the New Mexico Public Education Department’s school grading.

One is that more schools earned A’s and B’s, and another is that more schools earned D’s and F’s.
