County Trash Talk: Wrapping Reality Check

COUNTY News:

Wrapping paper = TRASH (yes, even the pretty kind!)  Recycle gift bags & cards only if they are 100 percent paper.

Trash anything with glitter, foil, ribbon, rope handles, or plastic shine.

Not sure? When in doubt, throw it out to keep recycling working right. Or try the recycle coach app.

Planet-friendly wrapping swaps:

Reuse gift bags & boxes, newspapers, maps, or fabric (Furoshiki). Use pinecones and twigs instead of plastic bows. Consider using kraft paper or seed paper.

Low-Sensory ‘Noon’ Year’s Eve At White Rock Library

COUNTY News:

The community is invited to chill out midday on New Year’s Eve, removing the need to stay up until midnight. Lean into a low-sensory “Noon” Year’s Eve experience.

At White Rock Branch Library, the County will provide a low-key, self-paced gathering for those of who don’t enjoy loud noises and things falling from the ceiling.

Library staff will have crafts and game stations available for kids who prefer to party at their own pace.

Clarification: Atomic City Transit Holiday Service Schedule

COUNTY News:

In observance of the upcoming holidays, Atomic City Transit will not operate regular bus service or ATC MyRide on Thursday, Dec. 25 (Christmas Day) or on Thursday, Jan. 1, (New Year’s Day). 

Regular bus services and ACT MyRide will resume on Friday, Dec. 26, 2025, and Friday, Jan. 2, 2026, after the holidays. 

No peak service

  • From Dec. 26 through Jan. 2, bus routes will operate without peak service intervals. Routes 1 and 6 will continue operating on their standard schedules throughout the day, with Route 1 providing downtown circulator service every half hour and Route 6 serving

Update: Los Alamos County Government Offices To Close For Observed Holidays Thursdays Dec. 25 And Jan. 1

COUNTY News:

In observance of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, Los Alamos County government offices and services will join other federal, state, and local governments and close on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025, and Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026.

County Administrative Offices, senior centers, Atomic City Transit service, and the Environmental Services Division will be closed on both days.

In addition, the following facilities will close or have modified hours:

White Rock Branch and Mesa Public libraries
