County New Year’s Eve Skate Party Tonight At Ice Rink

The Los Alamos County Community Services Department is hosting a New Year’s Eve Skate Party, 8 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. today, Dec. 31, at the Los Alamos County Ice Rink.

The community is invited to help complete a Ball Drop countdown and celebrate 2026!

County: New Chargers For Electric Vehicles Are Operational

COUNTY News:

Twelve new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in front of the Los Alamos County Municipal Building are now fully operational and available for use following a two-month installation project.

The 12 stations are powered by six state-of-the-art Level 2 dual-port networked chargers. A fee of $0.23/kWh will apply for public use of the chargers, helping to offset the operational costs of the new infrastructure. County: Protect Your Home From Sewer Overflow

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) is reminding customers to check whether their home or business is protected from potential sewer backups with a properly installed and maintained backwater valve.

Although DPU follows a rigorous maintenance program for cleaning and repairing sanitary sewer mains, obstructions can still occur for a variety of reasons. Sewer backups can be costly to clean up and may create public health risks for occupants.

Camp May Road Work Updated Due To Lack Of Snow

With high hopes for a snowy ski season at Pajarito Mountain, the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) previously shortened closures on Camp May Road during the holidays. Unfortunately, the mountain is still too dry for skiing, and as such, the road closure schedule is being adjusted again to take advantage of the favorable weather conditions for construction.

Library To Celebrate Noon Year’s Eve At Both Branches

Both branches of the Los Alamos Public Library invite families to ring in the new year early with the annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration Wednesday, Dec. 31. The free program runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

The annual Noon Year’s Eve celebration offers families with younger children a chance to celebrate at a kid-friendly hour. This year, as a new offering, the White Rock Branch will introduce a low-sensory option designed for children who prefer a calmer environment.

Alert: Main Hill Road Closed Due To Rockslide

UPDATE: As of 8:25 a.m. the Main Hill Road has been cleared and reopened.

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) report that both east and westbound lanes of N.M. 502, Main Hill Road, are closed due to a rockslide near Anderson Overlook.

LAPD officers are on scene and the New Mexico Department of Transportation is en route. Traffic is being rerouted to East Jemez Road or the Truck Route. 

At this time, there is no estimated timeline for when the roadway will reopen.
