The Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad (C&TS), the nation’s highest, longest and most authentic steam railroad, will open its 2026 season June 9, following a brief delay caused by drought conditions and elevated wildfire concerns.
Recently named the Nation’s Best Scenic Train Ride in the USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice travel award content, the C&TS runs 64 miles between Chama, New Mexico, and Antonito, Colorado, crossing the Colorado–New Mexico border 11 times while traversing some of the most spectacular mountain scenery in the American West.
