The Los Alamos County Historic Preservation Advisory Board ( HPAB) is scheduled to meet in special session at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 11 on Zoom.
The Agenda will include only “Approval of the agenda” and two action items: “Approval of the 2025 HPAB Work Plan” and “Approval of the 2025 HPAB Meeting Schedule”.

Los Alamos County Library Board December Update
For many, the end of the year is a time of reflection, and the Library is no different. At the December board meeting, Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza gave an update on the Library’s Strategic Plan 2024-2027, which is based on the Community Services Integrated Master Plan.
The Library has made significant progress toward its goals, including the addition of Hindi materials to the collection, online access to the Wall Street Journal, and coordination with Social Services to offer drop-in evening hours at both libraries.

Commemorate the 70th anniversary of Dr. John Stapp’s record-setting rocket sled ride on Dec. 10, 1954 at Holloman Air Force Base.
Dr. Stapp, known as “The Fastest Man on Earth”, achieved a land speed record of 632 mph in just five seconds, subjecting himself to forces up to 46.2 Gs.

It wasn’t enough for me to stare in awe and drink in the beauty of Claude Monet’s ravishing paintings of water lilies in Paris’ wonderful Musee de l’Orangerie – which by the way, is a must visit attraction for art lovers in the City of Lights. Los Luceros Historic Site To Host Ranger Walk ‘N Talk Tours Guiding Visitors Through Historic District Dec. 4 & 18

Los Luceros Historic Site News:
The community is invited to join Interpretive Ranger Kara on one of two guided tours through Los Luceros’ historic district in December.
Visitors will be guided around the site and its buildings, like the nineteenth-century chapel, and learn unique history, such as how it was rebuilt by Luis and Eliza Ortiz after the previous chapel was washed away by the Rio Grande.
Visitors will also learn about other interesting characters from the past who lived and worked on the property.
