FBI: Shiprock Woman Maylene John Charged With Murdering Her Child In Indian Country

ALBUQUERQUE — Alexander M.M. Uballez, United States Attorney for the District of New Mexico, and Raul Bujanda, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI Albuquerque Field Office, announced that Maylene John made an initial appearance in federal court on a criminal complaint charging her with murder in Indian Country.

John, 32, of Shiprock and an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, will remain in custody pending a preliminary and detention hearing scheduled for Oct. 31.

LAMS Deems Threat Rumors To Be Unfounded

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) reports that earlier today, Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS) staff was made aware of rumors about threats to the school.

The LAMS School Resource Officer, along with LAMS administration, promptly investigated and found no credible threat. Classes continued with no interruptions.

As a reminder, students are encouraged to use the “Say Something” anonymous reporting app to report any unsafe behaviors. The app is installed on all student Chromebooks for easy accessibility.

LAPD Responds To Threat Rumors At Los Alamos Middle School … Hasn’t Verifed Originating Sources

LAPD News:

The Los Alamos Middle School staff was made aware of rumors about threats to the school earlier today.  They promptly notified the School Resource Officer who investigated the rumors.

At this point LAPD has no first-hand information on the origin of these threats.

“The Los Alamos Police Department has the benefit of having a robust Community Liaison Unit that staffs School Resource Officers at our schools,” Deputy Chief Oliver Morris said. “We take any concern of safety at our schools as a high-priority, and we investigate any claims of violence.”

Chamisa’s PreK Classes Visit White Rock Fire Station

Chamisa’s PreK classes had a walking field trip to White Rock Fire Station #3 Thursday on N.M. 4. This trip was a culmination of their unit on Community Helpers. Interfaith Los Alamos Ramps Up Donation Drive After Thieves Steal Thousands Of Dollars In Winter Coats

Interfaith Los Alamos has ramped up its winter coat drive underway for refugees recently resettled in New Mexico after thieves stole thousands of dollars in winter coats and hygiene products Oct. 2 from a warehouse in Albuquerque.

Lutheran Family Services (LFS) is the only organization licensed by the US State Department to resettle refugees in the state. More than 100 families have been newly resettled during this past year alone, many from Afghanistan.

LAPD To Hold Drug Take Back Day Saturday Oct. 29

LAPD News:

On Saturday, Oct. 29, the Los Alamos Police Department (LAPD) will be conducting its biannual DEA Drug Take Back Day.

This event will begin at 10 a.m. and run until 2 p.m. in the North parking lot (off Central Avenue) of the LAPD.

The following items will not be accepted: Needles/sharps, any liquids or creams, and aerosol/ compressed medications.
