Well, I do have to apologize to Pete Sheehey, he caught me. I made a mistake when I said he wanted to give the jail to the Sheriff. I guess I was confused – what he actually wants to do is give prisoner transport to the Sheriff, or more accurately, to allow the Sheriff to “assist” in prisoner transport.

Two Men Arrested In Quemazon Home Burglary

When two men were arrested in Santa Fe in March. They were in a stolen vehicle containing items from a residential burglary, which had taken place just days earlier at a Quemazon home in Los Alamos.

Richard Borrego and Brandon Gonzales were both arrested on charges of residential burglary, larceny over $20,000 and conspiracy to commit residential burglary after Los Alamos Police Department officers interviewed them March 23 at the Santa Fe County Detention Center.

Espanola Man Charged For Crimes At Smith’s

A visit to Smith’s Marketplace May 25 ended in five criminal charges against an Espanola man. Jimmy Romero, 35, was charged with possession of a controlled substance, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, falsely obtaining food and assault.

Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto responded to a call from Smith’s loss prevention personnel regarding a shoplifting incident in progress.

Elijah Meason Arrested Again … Faces Multiple Charges For Forgery And Fraud

Elijah Meason has been arrested by Los Alamos Police Department twice since his April 21 initial arrest on forgery and fraud charges.

The two new arrests have garnered him two more forgery charges and two more fraud charges all connected to the same victim after he allegedly took checks without her knowledge and used them to make purchases at Smith’s Marketplace and Metzger’s Do It Best Hardware Store.

According to police and court records, Meason bought items from both businesses and shortly afterward returned the items for cash.

The Los Alamos Police Department has filed more charges against former local Detention Officer and Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Deputy Dustin Bingham. Bingham is now charged with two counts of sexual exploitation of children, felony and one count of child solicitation by electronic communication device. Sheriff Catches Recreation Bond Sign Vandals

Two teenage girls who allegedly vandalized Recreation Bond election signs on San Ildefonso Road earlier this month have been apprehended and referred to Los Alamos Teen Court, according to Los Alamos County Sheriff Marco Lucero.

Lucero said he was asked to investigate damage to the signs, which advocated voting against the recent bond initiative. He set up cameras around the target location and was able to get video of the two teens involved in the vandalism.

State Police Issue More Than 4,500 Traffic Citations

During the Memorial Day holiday, the New Mexico State Police participated in the Combined Accident Reduction Effort (CARE) operation across all roadways within the state.
 
Operations over the holiday resulted in State Police officers issuing more than 4,500 traffic citations  (470 citations were for lack of seatbelt usage) and arresting 61 drunk drivers state wide. A decision by First Judicial District Judge T. Glenn Ellington May 18 to suppress evidence found on Scott Mallory’s computer has been appealed to the Court of Appeals of the State of New Mexico. Judge Ellington ruled that Mallory’s spousal privilege was violated and information on his computer and any statements made by Mallory to police were to be suppressed.
